I'm having a hard time warming up to the shape of modern racecars.

I guess I'm just too old.

OK, clearly not as pretty as the cigar-shaped cars of F1 in the 60s, nor prototype sportscars like a Porsche 917 or Ferrari 512, but there's a certain beauty in the aero engineering and science (though maybe not the rules making) behind modern racecar lines. Maybe respect is a better word than beauty.

I agree with the OP. Some of those cars are just fugly. This is probably why I was thrilled to see the Trans Am series back on TV. At least the cars still look like cars I can recognize.

Often, the only way to fully appreciate beautiful things is to view them with coverings removed!!

Perhaps but this is hard, very hard to surpass

Isn't the appearance a function of aerodynamic engineering rather than aesthetics?

It's not a woman, it's a car.

Good point. But they don't have the cool names like some of the older aircraft

Corsair F4U "Whistling Death" (often wondered why they put that "4" in there?

The Ligier is a good looking machine. Its just that terrible Krohn Racing green that ruins everything. His 458 Italia was ugly too and you can't say that about the Ferrari.

Baz, when I was a kid I thought those 908/3s were bluntly ugly. I'd say the lime green Krohn machine that started this thread is bluntly ugly, too, thought with a lot more busy aero do-dads. But now, somehow that 908/3 has morphed (in my mind, at least) into a beautifully simple shape and one of my favorite Porsches of all time.

I just can't get on board with the massive longitudinal dorsal fin, it is, to me a place for Budweiser to plaster it's logo feces on, and nothing more.
Yeah I'm old too

I'm sure the rule book has something to do with the awkwardness of these machines now a days.
