Another Victim of Social Media ... Snap - Job
Snap - there goes the job!

Now, if you ask me, it isn't smart engaging in this type of juvenile behavior, especially if you have a multi-million dollar / year job, but WTF is wrong with the 18 year old kid!? O-boy! ![]() G ![]() |

Note that he wasn't fired for cause here. There probably were more things going on according to the news. But it can't have helped! This is a guy that's brought in to fix the bank and then he is in the news proclaiming how bored he is by his job ... if you are the head of the Bank of Scotland, your daughter shouldn't be an idiot.
I am paranoid about my personal information online and beat it into my kids that once you put it in the ether, it will be there forever. Maybe this guy was ready to retire anyway. I know I would be, if I was that bored and loaded with $$$. G |

Perhaps he was on to something. I had a couple guys at M&T bank tell me it stood for 'meet and talk'. The implication being that nothing actually gets done (this was very clear in the context of the conversation).

I think we are just at the beginning of a FB/Twitter/Instagram/*****/smartphone-blowup! I hope so!
Of course this was not the reason for the leaving, but it did not help. People are SO stupid! And I hope that MANY will fall over such issues! |

Some say.................
The purpose of meetings is to disseminate responsibility and create "plausible deniability" if it goes wrong. "Well, I was always against XYZ strategy, but, well, the meeting decided it". Hence, the only reason to go meetings is to get advance warning of what brilliant managerial decisions will require your "input" to be "implemented". Anything that needs to be done, do it and seek forgiveness later. A friend implemented a Critical Care Admissions process in 1996 for which he/she received an e-mail in 2012 telling them it had never been formally approved. It's still happening, pending 'formal review'.

I see it as playful, humorous texts that he assumed were between just the two of them. If you had a daughter, or son, you'd understand. He did fail to tell her not to share them in any way, shape, or form and that was his big mistake. Social media is far too addictive, especially to teenagers. It's like leaving them with a loaded gun and no instructions on how to handle it.

Raise your hand if you've never sat through a boring meeting.
Now that no hands are up, raise your hand if you've sat through a boring meeting that you knew it would be a really bad idea if the wrong people knew you were bored there. You can put your hands down. Ever tell your family or friends about your boring meeting? The daughter probably didn't understand why the communication needed to stay private.

I think some of what is wrong in 'our society today' is the expectation that said instructions would be adequate to manage the situation.

The daughter is not very smart. Neither is the RBS guy. The problem with Snap Chat is that people assume it is only there fore x seconds and then disappears forever.
Same on Face book, Icloud, etc. - I'd be very leery to put compromising information out there. It doesn't matter much if you are an average citizen, nobody wants to see your bathroom selfie or "I am bored at work" jokes, but if you are a celebrity or head of the RBS, you better be careful ... Sometimes I feel I want to go off grid ASAP. Live in a cabin. ![]() G |

Argh! So true!
In the old days, you'd drive past a gate on a country road going up a canyon and you'd never know what and who is back there. Nowadays, a few clicks and you can see what kind of building is hiding back there and a few clicks more and likely you have all the information on the dwelling size, when it was sold last and if you are lucky even interior pictures from the last time it was turned over. That sucks .... G |

Did you guys see the one about the Capital Hill aide who tweeted something about the Obama daughters' attire and demeanor at a public event a few mos. ago? Man, did the social media world unleash the fury on her and she ended up quitting before she was canned. I supposed she's young enough still learn a lesson from it all and not repeat the mistake.

Social media...very effective mechanism in separating impulsive morons from those with foresight and care.
