Smile creepy crawlies and other scary stuff

ok, here's something truly off topic. i thought it would be cool for people to post the stuff that scares the crap out of them. for me it's this:

http://www.aqua.org/animals/species/venom/goltarantula.html

Goliath bird-eating tarantula
Theraphosa blondi
Size: 25 cm (10 in) across
Range: Surinam, Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela

Tarantula music? This large spider makes the most noise - a hissing sound that can frighten attackers. If that doesn't work, it is likely to flick irritating hairs from its abdomen at an attacker, causing an extremely itchy rash. Though it will bite, most problems in humans come from infections in the wound rather than the venom.

---

i don't know about everyone else, but that's just way too creepy and crawly for me.

Here's a texas red wasp taking out your wimpy tarantula.

I hate flying things that can sting and have a bad temper.

I actually like spiders, but what really gets me is running into their web face first in the dark. I like them as long as I don't think they are on my person. I also don't mind snakes, assuming we are leaving each other alone. Scared of wasps, hornets, etc..., nope, but I'd prefer that they leave me alone. Scorpions, those are pretty nasty things.

I guess if I had to pick, I would pick Scorpions and then large spiders.

Mine would have to be running into the occasional red wasp up in the attic. One or two get trapped in there at random and of course since they're bugs they're attracted to the flashlight. Not a fun thing to bump into while trying to not fall through the ceiling below!

I hate these guys. They were building just outside our back door, above the web. I sprayed the nest with non lethal aerosol, and this one fell into the web, the other I stomped on. The spider showed up a few moments later, reinforced the web, and went away.

The enjoyment of watching this fucher trying to get out, only to become more entangled, was priceless. Its life expired after an hour or so. I'm going to leave it there to warn other yellow jackets that there might be a bad arse spider nearby.

Stuff that scares the crap out of me?

Drain pipes - the kind that are big enough for you to crawl into and get stuck
Pretty much any snake
Ships - I know, WTF?
aerial ladders
skuba diving - The most creeped out I've ever been was my first time scuba diving and I walked down the anchor chain and then looked up at the bottom of the boat. It was like being stuck in a drain pipe with a ship sinking on top of me.

The creepy crawly factor for me is tripped by

#1. the # of legs it has... Centipedes/millipedes, GROSS!

#2. Is it any kind of cockroach? Absolutely hate them.

#3. Jerusalem Crickets. I don't know why they freak me out as bad as they do but I honestly just cringe when I see them...

I was doing a 24 race in Lake Oroville a few years ago. I wasn't in shape, so I was taking it pretty easy. I noticed a lot of the Jerusalem Crickets out on the trail - they really stood out with the helmet light. Decided to take a little siesta at the top of a hill. Pulled over out of sight of the trail, laid down on my jacket, back flat to the ground and fell asleep. I felt something on my hand... Opened my eyes and could see the Jerusalem's cricket on my hand.

Screamed like a little girl!!!! Jumped up, swatted myself in case there were more, jumped on the bike and rode like hell. Heart was going about 140 before I turned a single pedal stroke!

I like spiders; they keep the other annoying stuff in check. My wife and her youngest son HATE spiders. I take immense (dysfunctional) pleasure in pointing out to them that they're never more than 8 feet away from a spider.

I wouldn't say I'm "afraid" of any creepy crawly thing, but I will admit to being a bit weirded out when something crawls across me in the middle of the night. Happens occasionally while camping, and a little more than occasionally when I was "living" in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I really have no phobias or fears of anything in particular. I am smart enough to not pick up snakes, spiders, or scorpions. Wasps will get my attention but I just leave them alone unless they are inside, then they die.

I was at an astronomy viewing party once at a friends house. He lives out in the country in a very dark area. We had 20 or 25 people there all looking through the telescopes.

The home owner told me from the beginning if I need to use the bathroom facilities to head back to the house 100 yards away. He said don't go between those two trees, there are a lot of spiders in the trees. Several hours later I headed up to the house and completely forgot his warning. I remembered as I felt lots of spider webs all over me. It was absolutely total black dark so I was blind and covered in spider webs. I had no idea what type of spiders they were.

That kinda gave me the willies and I hot footed it out of there to the house. There were lots of webs in my hair when I got inside. I did not walk back through the trees.
