Kentucky Derby--General Admission $55--Any good ?

General Admission tickets run $55 according to the main website.
Anyone used these and are they worthwhile ?
I'm doing a roadtrip in my 88 911 over 3 weeks, thru Tx / Tn and thought it might be nice to extend to Ky and catch the Derby.
Any comments regarding attending the race and gaining accommodation would be appreciated.

Off topic but there are some great roads in Arkansas. You can't get to Tennessee from Texas without trying hard to avoid Arkansas. Think tail of the dragon but it goes on for 100 miles or more.

ive been to churchill downs several times but never for derby. Im not really a gambling type of guy but Ive always had a good time, my cousin gets the swanky indoor tickets though.

I suspect the derby is a bit of a specticle/mad house. Like going to times square for NYE or something similar.

For a better time at the track, be here the day before derby and go the "Oaks" a much nicer time for a lot less money. A $55 derby day in the infeild is good if your a 20 year old. Usually the infeild is very muddy very drunk and very party & puke. Last time I did the derby was 1988 been going to the oaks ever since. I live 15 miles from Churchill Downs and love the ponys but the Derby is better taken in at a derby party off track. Come on to Louisville anytime, you'll love it!

went in 94 and like Edgar said total party in the infield wall to wall people. Didn't really see a horse all day. Go to the oaks or even any other day and take the tour. Everyone should see horses run at Churchill downs someday.

GA tickets are OK if you can get down to the rail. That will be hard considering the thousands of people that will be there. That being said, I doubt very much you will find any $55.00 tickets at this late stage. The Derby gets sold out many, many months in advance. You also need to get on the list to be able to buy tickets.

Exactly what he said. Derby infield is a drunkfest.
