Question: Porsche v. Ferrari
Why is it (or does it seem) that every time Porsche and Ferrari release revolutionary cars around the same time as eachother does...
1. The Ferrari has more power, less weight and 2. The lap times and performance measures are almost always the same. Examples: 911 Gt3rs v. Ferrari Challenge Stradale Porsche 911 GT3 RS vs Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (Series 4, Episode 3) - BBC Top Gear and now the 918 v. La Ferrari. Ferrari is rumored to not allow Top Gear to have a go with the La Ferrari pitted against the 918, why is that is the La Ferrari has more power, less weight. And why does Porsche hold back and not just completely take advantage of this? Clearly the technological intricacies of the Porsche are superior, why hold back on the power? Why not add 50, 70 or 80more hp to just completely drive the Ferrari out of the water?

You might as well throw the Corvette in there too.
Everyone is pushing for the same bench mark, which is a little more than the old benchmark. If one surpasses the others, there are always revisions made to the others. Keeping the advancements incremental keeps people interested in the latest developments. Gotta leave something in reserve, to coax the next buyer into breaking out the wallet. |

Yeah but how do they compare to a well setup 944?

Imagine the Ferrari as a really skinny slut with huge boobs, and
The Porsche as a really cool shapely chick with a great job. The Ferrari might have technically better numbers, but the Porsche is going to be much better suited for most things, and with a competent driver will generally end up being the winning vehicle.

Porsche is historically very conservative with their figures and overdeliver. Best to let the test results speak for themselves.

I plan to be both a Ferrari and Porsche owner by August. We went to the dealer here in South Denver and everything looks good, but my wife was shocked at the maintenance costs. She will get over it.

You know... I wouldn't mind a skinny chick with big boobs for a while. I think it would be a nice, fun change. I just don't know how I would afford her, or the resultant divorce and alimony.

A business associate of mine who lives in Denver has a 458, I think a 2012. He told me he buys a bumper to bumper warranty and maintenance package from Ferrari of Denver for, IIRC, $5-7k per year. Covers everything except accidents. Seems like good piece of mind. I'd guess a new double clutch gearbox for that car is near $50k??

Owning a Porsche is silly. Owning a Ferrari is plain crazy.
