What is this car worth?

1964 230SL 107K miles. Has a fresh 250SL engine. Solid driver, no rust. Last owner had it for 25 years.

From the single pic, in the ~$50 ish range plus or minus.

Coupes are worth more than convertibles, generally in the ~ $70 range.

Those are average prices for a condition 2-3 car.

Add or subtract depending on condition.

The mismatched motor hurts the value.

As its a 230SL and not a 280 and it does not have its original engine I would estimate anywhere from $25K to $40K but I could well be on the low side as the classic car market has gone nuts as we all know.

Well that explains things a bit more.

That car has had some work done and not good work.

That lower valence behind the wheel is one of the places they rust. It's dented with no paint damage so looks like a poor repair.

Also the rear flair looks really soft, it may be the lighting but it should look sharper, more defined like the front.

It may have had rust issues and not been repaired with new sheet metal.

The gaps on the older cars were not always great or consistent but the trunk on that looks a bit tweaked.

That's the car but I can get it for a lot less. Scott, good eye and I think there is some plastic in the back. I would go through the car inch by inch on and off a lift before committing.

Pluses are the paint is decent, color is excellent. Mechanicals are as well but it is still a driver. For the price

That is a pretty sweet little car, looks good with or without the hard top, and the weather should be getting nice soon.

Just a few years ago, this would have been a $10-12,000 car.

You should have bought it then.

The older MB's just like the long hoods have gone nuts in the last 5 years.

Since 2012 the value of my 190SL has gone up ~$70-100k.

Reminds me, I need to call my insurance guy tomorrow and adjust my coverage.

A friend's car. He drives this daily. Note, This is a LHD he imported himself from the US.

Generally very reliable but recently he had some electrical issues.

There are so many nice cars that I can drool over, that I would love to drive if not own.
The 280SL or 280SE 3.5, 356SC Cabriolet. Those would be my choices, simple tastes...

What about the r107 values - specifically the 560SL? It seems like they've been low and stagnant for a long time now. Any thoughts about when that might change?

"560SL"... Great cars and a lot of people used to say. "That's my dream car" but they are complicated compared to anything earlier so maintenance etc can get scary.
But I've never owned one. Only going but what others have said.

Still... They do look good. (87)

I'll admit I asked as someone who owns one and was thinking of selling at some point later this year.

In my opinion a lot of the complexity is due to the fact that a lot of things are overengineered and room to work on anything can be very limited. It's not so much that you need to be an electrician to work on one, but if you see what you want to remove good luck actually getting any tools down there. There are also a lot of rubber bits that 25-45 years of time have taken their toll on.

I have a hard time gauging what the future holds because there isn't so much of an enthusiast community like the PP Forums have. Benzworld is dead by comparison.
