New tires, greasy, tell me?

Got a set of new Toyo summer performance wheels. I know about the new wheel's greasy feeling and should go away in 500 miles of driving but just didn't know they were that bad around the corner. I took my usual 55 degree corner hard like I normally do on my way up the hill. I was not going nearly as fast as I normally would, the car slid sideways so I let off and punch it again just to see how much the new tires will slide. I got it side way alright. There's normally no cars there just the occasional residents. Plus, I can see for about 1/8 mile from that turn.

I heard (and think) it's not good to hammer brand new tires, that they should be broken in. True?

I didn't really hammer on it. Took a fast corner and away I want right over the yellow. The whole car slid over. My S2000 normally do not do that on that turn.

How new are they? Should scrub in >100miles and a couple of heat cycles. Ive had Toyos Proxes and had some sidewall problems on the rear of a 911, but not what you describe.

I'd define broken in at 100 miles. The mold release compound makes them greasy.

It is probably softening compound. I put on brand new R888 and drove 10 miles to the track. By the time I was there "greasiness" was gone...

Makes me think of my youth. I bought new tires for my turbo Trans Am. After leaving the tire shop, I met a buddy. We raced and I ended up in someone's front yard while trying to negotiate a turn!

When I put on a new set of tires a couple years ago I thought something was defective. It was downright scary for a while. It felt like the tires only had 10 PSI in them. After 100 miles on normal driving and a few greasy laps at an autocross they finally started to hold.

Just give it time.

I knew it needed some time to wear itself in, but I have never experienced it to be that bad. Scary if I was really hauling azz.

This is why I went with the Nitto NT01's...no scrub in time, no heat cycling time...stuck, like glue, from the first corner on...

Ask Jack Olsen, he likes 'em too

I am sure the Nitto NT01 is great on the dry track. How do they do in the rain? I would bet they are scary in the rain.
