Thinking about taking a vacation....what about Baltimore?

Seems like they really know how to throw a party!

My girlfriend works a few blocks from the CVS that went up in smoke.

Unbelievable what's going on.

That's crazy! Hope she stays safe...

fastfredracing 04-27-2015 06:31 PM

The guy who grew up next door to me lives in the area as well. He has been posting photos to facebook all evening. What a zoo. I think I would just get the hell out of town for a few days if I lived anywhere near that mess.
Seems our world is a real powder keg these days. I would not be surprised in the least if this is coming to a town near you soon .

I really enjoy a big bowl of popcorn while watching Faux show the city burn...

motion 04-27-2015 11:56 PM

I'm all for it. If they want to burn down their own city, go for it. Just stay away from my town. I have guns, and so does every other person in town.

That's really sorta my thought. I always wonder if they wake up the next morning with a hangover, walk to the corner CVS for some Advil, then realize that they burned it down the night before. Doh!

onewhippedpuppy 04-28-2015 02:41 AM

It wouldn't surprise me to see something similar happen in our nation's capital.

ckelly78z 04-28-2015 02:42 AM

The guy in the picture above sure scored (a case of paper towel rolls WOOHOO). These idiots are looking for any excuse to tear some stuff up and get thier mugs on the national news, why is it ALWAYS the black youth who are doing the looting, and burning of cars and buildings ?

widgeon13 04-28-2015 02:53 AM

It's pretty bad when the looters and thugs have better strategies than the cops!

"Yes, we planned for it. That wasn't the issue," Batts told reporters late Monday. "We just had too many people out there [for us] to overcome the numbers we had." The commissioner added that the rioters had pulled his officers to "opposite ends of the city" and had "outnumbered us and outflanked us."

Porsche-O-Phile 04-28-2015 03:30 AM

There is no obligation on the part of the police whatsoever to protect your property or even your life. You're expected to trust them completely, place all your safety in their hands, forego any right to protect yourself (if you do you're likely to be branded an instigator or vigilante and prosecuted) and let them handle it. If they don't feel like doing so that day, too bad for you. You have no recourse. Modern (unionized) police forces the biggest protection shakedown scam in history. They make the mafia jealous. Think of that the next time you see them strutting around in their expensive "hoo-rah" tactical gear or blasting through traffic endangering people's lives for the oh-so-critical task of pulling over someone to write a traffic ticket from the helm of their $50,000 highly-modded cruiser.

I was raised to trust and respect the police and they deserved it back then. Nowadays not so much. More and more I see them as being there largely just to prop up our corrupt system by force and occasionally shake money out of the public-at-large to pay for it. If the police want us to respect them again maybe they ought to try earning it rather than demanding it.

Yes, looter criminals are scumbags but as the saying goes, "it takes two to tango". The PD is hardly blameless and with increasingly confiscatory government policies being enforced via increasingly militarized police units we can unfortunately expect to see more of these kinds of incidents in the future. Demagogues like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton (and Michelle Obama) stoking the fires of racial tension certainly don't help matters any.

Crowbob 04-28-2015 03:31 AM

Meanwhile, small towns all across America are arming up:

Local Police Acquire Surplus Military Items - Northern Michigan's News Leader

The thing I found particularly troublesome is the mental gymnastics involved in the police departments' rationalizations for acquiring such firepower:

"It's a good use of tax payer money, instead of using our budget we use what's already being manufactured," Borkovich said."

"These departments say they try hard not to be frivolous and request only items they know they can use."

fintstone 04-28-2015 03:35 AM

I am sure the Baltimore PD would have been more than happy to break some heads (as they well should have).
Unfortunately they do not call the shots. Liberal Mayors and Governors do.

The mayor told the police to stand down. Give the protesters room. How did that work out?

It worked out great. "See, this is what happens without the police. Now stop complaining about cops and let us do our job."

Baz 04-28-2015 05:24 AM

I'm not saying law enforcement is perfect. They make plenty of mistakes. Terrible PR for one.

But.....those who are complaining about them are usually the first to dial 9-1-1 when their boy friend slaps them across the face or steals their TV set when they break up.

Don't break the law and the police will not be an issue in your life!

It's a damn shame the black community does not have leadership like him right now.

Crowbob 04-28-2015 05:33 AM

But it does have leadership. Sort of. But not in the right direction (intentional pun, there).

Baz 04-28-2015 05:42 AM

You hit the nail on the head, Matt.

Leadership is what is missing.

You'd think with a black president that wouldn't be a problem. Unbelievable and very sad.

onewhippedpuppy 04-28-2015 05:48 AM

MLK did what he believed was right, and ultimately paid the ultimate price. Current leadership, black community and otherwise, does what is best for them. Big difference.

tadd 04-28-2015 06:10 AM

I think the police have showed remarkable restraint.

I mean, what kind of PR nightmare would ensue from taking forceful action against a bunch of high school kids throwing large rocks at the line of police. Only real option I could see they have is to 'retreat'. Hurting or killing a bunch of 15--17 year olds would NOT go down well regardless of their behavior (short of them hurting another person).

Rick Lee 04-28-2015 06:17 AM

And all I heard on the news last night, both on tv and radio, was that these rioters are teenagers and don't represent what B'more is. Yeah, this guy is clearly old enough to know better and he's proudly displaying his worthless loot for the cameras. I hope he ends up in jail.

What I thought interesting was the video of the thuggies scattering like las cookarachas to their cars in the parking lot of the vandalized and looted mall.

Their cars! Poverty is such a burden.

GWN7 04-28-2015 06:25 AM

They were teenagers till they became felons.

Let them throw rocks at the National Guard and see how well that works out for them.

dennis in se pa 04-28-2015 06:26 AM

The inner city will actually be better off for this. Everything will be rebuilt brand new. The issue is - what is the real cause. Are the people rightfully extremely frustrated by their treatment by police? Or are they just violent people just looking for a reason to destroy anything?

onewhippedpuppy 04-28-2015 06:38 AM

My 11 year old is smart enough to know that damaging other people's property and attacking police is wrong. "Just teenagers" is a BS EXCUSE. Why does the media persist in making excuses for this behavior? You can't excuse it, you can't rationalize it, wrong is wrong.

Yeah. It worked well for Detroit.

It's a little of both. These people are frustrated and looking for some action. They are bored, isolated and pretty much adrift in the land of opportunity.

Kent State 4, how many more? I'm thinking the Nat'l Guard would not open fire as they did back then.

It is my humble opinion that B'more has been a sheethole for a long time. When I was playing rugby my team traveled to B'more for a tournament every spring. We always had problems when out in the evening. We stopped bringing WAGs with us and I stopped going to the tourney all together.

I respectfully disagree with the rebuilt brand new part.

I suspect a lot of the business won't return.

There are still areas in LA that complain about not having stores etc return from after the LA Riots.

Its just bad business to return.

Baz 04-28-2015 09:15 AM

The National Guard will be there to hold the ground not taken by the rioters.

The police will continue their duties on the front line.

The mayor should be fired for letting this get so out of hand. Terrible incompetence.

Joe Ricard 04-28-2015 09:22 AM

I would be interested in seeing this kind of behavior come to my town. Here in the south "Judge he needed a killin" is a perfectly good explaination.

scottmandue 04-28-2015 09:22 AM

I bet you could pick up a flat screen really cheap!

I'm guessing the police "stood down" because they were out numbered (budget cut dontchno) and things would have gone south pretty fast if they engaged.

Kinda like how if your house is on fire and is obviously a lost cause the firemen will concentrate on saving the houses around you.

SOME of the people are. They weren't at the riot.

THESE are the people rioting. They just saw an excuse to get free stuff, play gotcha with the cops, and let off steam.
