However I was as drunk as a skunk... for some unexplained reason decided to try on an old silver ring... couldn't get it off (the ring)... and snipped it off with a pair of dykes with no damage to myself (much to my surprise).

Just sayin

A 914 guy drunk as a skunk, never woulda figured THAT!

My neighbor slammed her finger in a car door and mashed the ring. I cut it off with a pair of dykes no problem.

I know, what are the odds, right.

I crashed my bicycle once when I was probably too drunk to walk, did not get a scratch. Did not even own a 914 then, so I did not even have a good reason to be that drunk, aside from it being a Saturday.

Try cutting a ring off someone who has 90 year old skin and get back to me on the using dykes thing. If you crush the ring a little, it will give you a little space because it goes from being circular to oval.

Thing is those tricks work best when you look them up first, after a short failed attempt... when you try a few times and make the finger mad, you get sausage finger and then all bets are off... I went to a jeweler and he used a special tool as pictured in a previous post. He told me the current trend of exotic materials in rings makes it hard, some metals (forgot if it was titanium or other) cannot be cut at a jewelers and you have to go to a fire station for specialized tools... Stick to soft metals ;-)

How about consuming a diuretic for a few days?

Next time go to jail- they have to take off your jewelry. I bet they are pretty good at this.

Hey, you can't leave us hanging... how did you get the ring off? Did you get that fancy tool?

bivenator 05-13-2015 11:13 AM

Wife said she soaked hand in cool water 15 minutes. Petroleum jelly and a lot of determination. I still have the cutting tool coming from Amazon, let me know if anyone here needs one.

I wear a titanium wedding band (because they make fighter jets and rocket ships out of titanium dontchano....)

Then after the fact became concerned about how to remove it in the event of an accident... the internet said titanium rings will shatter... that made me feel MUCH better! :D

Here's a concept….How about maintaining the same body weight as the day you put it on there. Funny how too many potato chips and french fries make a ring shrink.

The ER ring removal tool is simply a slow spinning low torque dremel tool... at least thats what we use...

I've seen rings removed using 2 elastic band methods. A bonus of this is, the eleastic band gets the soap solution well under the ring. There's also a dental floss method...though I've never seen it used for real. Just videos.

Here's method 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4ks0-1xLVE

Method 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2oqLTayIzA

Mine is too, my first one was gold and it was never round and I wore it paper thin in just twenty years, so when we replaced it I got a titanium one, I am a mechanic and I wear my ring at work.
Somewhere there is an M5 with a nice pry bar sized dent in the firewall just behind the right head. Yeah I got my hand stuck.

I posted the Gollum picture as an inside joke for her, she is an over the shoulder participant on Pelican. I won't be showing her Craig T's advice or she will be tempted to travel to Ventura to give him an even trickier ring removal problem.

Guessing you are not married?

My wife tripped on the stair and jammed her hand into railing thus swelling up her finger... so potato chips are not required. ;)

When my grandfather introduced me to working on mechanical things (ie cars, motors) the first thing he taught me was to remove all rings, jewelry, belt, loose clothing, or anything else that could get caught and pull off my finger, wrist, etc.

Sage advise I've never forgotten.
