I am in awe! The rate at which that thing accelerates from 100mph is unbelievable!

Lessee, accelerate coming out of the corners, boost comes on, fries the rear tire, fall down and go BOOM.....sounds like the old 750 turbo Ninja to me.

Hmm...rear-engined turbocharged cars would have a similar problem, wouldn't they?

I know of a guy around here that did the same thing to a Hayabusa. All I thought was "why?" The bike goes over 200 mph bone stock. And you want to go faster??????????????? WTF?

Yeah, but when you spin a Porsche, you don't get run over by the next vehicle, turn into a scab, or grind your face off while awaiting that sudden stop into a wall or the bottom of a 150 foot drop....
A turbo on a bike is just plain waiting for a fatality. "Darwin Award" finalist if ya ask me....like that guy with the Jet Assisted Bonneville a few years back. |

Sorry to spoil the party but this video clip is definately wrong on a number of details:
1 - at that rate of acceleration he would be pulling wheelies everywhere 2- if you look at the scenery, then it's not going past very quickly at all, especially since it's supposed to be going 180+. Of course, I am assuming that the speedo is reading in mph and not kph, which might make it a little more understandable & therefore less impressive. Surely I'm not the only one to think that these apparently high speeds don't seem that awesome if they're supposed to be mph? |

Toby,
I had the same reaction. It seeks kind of fake to me too. It looks as if the guy used a kmh speedo to deceive us into thinking it is super quick.

Hey,
While everybody is getting excited about turbocharged motos, I have a Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo in my garage just absolutely begging for a new owner! I bought it in Miami back in '92 when it was 10 years old (an '82 model) with mileage in the teens. Gentlemen, make your bids! Ryan

Having a rice rocket myself, the turbocharged Hayabusa is nothing. Jay Leno has a bike that has a jet engine. It gets 3-4 miles per gallon.

I read about that thing...he said when he stopped at a traffic light, a Lexus pulled up behind him, and the bike's exhaust started melting the Lexus's bumper....

Looks like the swingarm has been extended which would help keep his front wheel down. The Hayabusa is powerful, but it is also heavier then most sportbikes. Toward the end of the video, while he is in the city traffic, it does look like he is using a KPH speedo, but he still accelerates pretty quicky throughout the video.
Hahn Race Craft makes a turbo kit for the bike (I pass by their shop at least once a week). Sportbike magazine did a feature article on that kit. Pretty simple kit it seems, and it works. For these larger bikes, you wont see many of their owners carving corners. Their owners are content with going fast in a straight line. The guys that like to carve corners usually go for the smaller lighter bikes. I have 750 Ninja (9 years old) with jets, exhuast and aftermarket sprockets. Sometimes I look down at the speedo and be very surprised to be going 130 or so. The power to weigh ratio on these bikes is incredible. For mine, it's close to that of the Gembella Turbo that is in this month's Excellence. That's with me on it! And it maxes out at 166 MPH stock. Until you really get on and into a sportbike, you may have a hard time appreciating their P/W ratio, and the performance that can be squeezed out of them. OH< there was a post a while back with a link to a Hayabusa site that showed a guy poping a wheelie and keeping it up there up to 140 MPH. That was more impressive then this guy. And it looked more real. |

btw - couldn't agree more souk. the ptw ratio of std sports bikes is way up there. impossible to ride anywhere near flat out (for more than a few seconds) on most streets.

I had a 86 Honda VF500F Interceptor 500. Pretty average bike by today's standards, but in it's day it was a solid performer. Liquid cooled V-four, 6 speed, 12,500 redline. 0-60 = 3.9 sec? 1/4 mi = 12.66 sec? Very nimble and fun bike to ride. Pretty fast compared to any street car. Seems like it was one of the first "sport bikes." But, it is kinda dated looking (I called it the Captain America Bike) and so that made me the brunt of many punk teenagers comments while on the road/at stoplights. "Wanna race?" was my only response. Let them get a head start, then zing through the gears and pass them in their Neon, Mustang, Camaro, or Civic like they're standing still. It was a fun bike for $2000. Never shoulda sold it. I'd buy it back from the fella to whom I sold it if I could. Problem is he flipped it over a car and totaled it. Nice. One more good bike to add to the list of those destroyed by irresponsible morons. Mine looked pretty similar to this one.
