Looking for quiet SUV tires
I decided to replace the tires on my wife's 2004 Lexus RX330. Tires are 235/55 18.
She wants tires that are quiet, my only criteria is that they are all weather. Any recommendations? The wheel wells have ample room. If they're available, I was thinking of bumping the tire profile up to 60. Any thoughts? Current tires are Yokos. |

We have Firestone Destination LE on the Suquiox and Odyssey and they are really quiet. I don't know if they are available in 18s but check them out.
Great traction in snow and rain. I had no problem in any snowfall we had in MI over the last few years

Check into these if you can find a local dealer. Nokian makes amazingly good tires. This one comes in the right size for the Lexus
Nokian WRG3 SUV - Nokian Tyres is introducing the rugged, high-performance Nokian WRG3 SUV all-weather tire for varied use on sports utility vehicles. / Nokian Tires I have the Rotiiva AT's on my Silverado and I'm extremely pleased with them.

My wife is about a month into her new Yokohama Ascends. Since she also drives a Lexus RX I called her for a review, asking particularly about road/tread noise.
She says they're quiet - certainly quieter than the Michelin Latitude Tours they replaced. In the month the tires have been on the car she's experienced plenty of dry, wet and snowy road conditions in a mix of in-town, highway and mountain driving. She reports that they have performed well in all conditions. Now, understand that she drives like the grandmother she is and is as easy on her car and its equipment as she can reasonably be. Still, her part time job takes her from about 5,600' in elevation to just over 8,000' in the course of about 6 miles on a road that offers her more hairpins and switchbacks in 15 minutes than many folks will ever encounter. Can't speak to tread wear yet, but her mix of driving isn't really representative anyway, as those same mountain roads exact a much higher toll on tread life than is experienced in city driving. Bottom line: so far, so good on the Yokos. Oh, and they were several hundred dollars less than if we'd gone with another set of Michelins.

I have Firestone Destination XXXX (not certain without looking) and they are great. They are on a Toyota Sequoia and grip very well in all conditions. As you requested, they are quiet. Quiet as a road tire? No. Certainly not offensive though.

Continental CrossContact Eco
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=CrossContact+LX20+with+EcoPlus+Technolog y&partnum=455SR9CCLX20&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Toyota&autoYear=2012&autoModel=Highlander&autoModClar=Limited Had them on our Cayenne and I upgraded the Highlander with the Limited Wheels and got them again. Great mileage rating, great ride, they work very well in the snow and wet, whisper quiet for an SUV tire.

I bought a set of Toyo Open Country H/Ts for my wife's Nissan Xtrail and she seems very happy with them. They handled winter conditions very well this past year.
Not too noisy but I haven't driven with them at highway speed for a while so I don't remember...

We had Firestone Destination A/T on several trucks and SUVs, they were very quiet, especially for an A/T tire. I suspect the Destination LE is quieter yet.

Just make sure it's not wheel bearing noise you're hearing. Had some tires on our Highlander that were getting noisy towards the end of there useful life (so I thought). When I was putting on the new tires I found a bad wheel bearing....new tires made the same noise......new bearing no noise.
Firestone Winterforce on the Highlander. Great winter traction but i'm sure you can find a quitter tire.

HD--I apologize as the tires on the Honda are Firestone FR710 all season.
They are still quiet. They replaced the Yokahamas that came on it as they were getting noisy as they wore out. HUUUUGE difference in noise levels.

That's the next tire I get for my truck. With my winter Open Country A/Ts, the truck beats the hell out of you. With those, it'll be a Sequoia again.

Wifes 2011 Outback came with Continentals. Not sure of the model. Very smooth riding and quiet. I'll replace with the same when necessary.

They were shredded and destroyed within three years of almost normal driving. Those are crap tires IMO. Another thousand dollars or so later I learned something. Micheline makes good truck tires. |

My Yokohama Geolander AT/S don't look like they would be quiet but they are whisper quiet. I have them on an SUV and a Pickup. Can't hear either.
