another vote for the basic Brita. works well for us.

We have been using a Katadyn Ceradyn for several years. Ceramic filters are cleanable though it isn't as beautiful as the Berkey it has way more volume than pitcher designs.

Buddy in Puerto Vallarta installed a pool sand filter to do his whole house. Back flushes it every couple weeks. He says the water quality is night and day difference. Was cheap too.

Used to buy the counter top type for at work. The replacement cartridges get very expensive.
