What other Sports/classic/supercar have you owned?

Just wondering what other cool cars you guys have owned. My dad and I each have a 80's 911, recently looking for another car to add and am wondering what you all have owned and how it compares to a Porsche! Comparing Drivability/maintenance/DIY work/cost/overall experience and any other thing that comes to mind.

To kick off here is my Porsche

1961 Aston Martin DB4. Which i bought in 1972 for $1,750 and sold seven years ago to the Prime Minister of Kuwait for $250,000.

do i miss it? Yes but when i last rebuilt it i had to have pistons made by Vanolia, main and rod bearings re sized from jaguar and valves made custom. $10k in custom parts,me doing the wrenching. It was time to sell. I put the $ in the stock market, and have at least doubled my money.

I was a Bimmerphile until the Porsche bug bit me. I had an E30 M3, E34 M5 and a Dinan E39 540i. They pale in comparison to my first Porsche, a RoW 85 cab. It got even better when I started buying turbos. Boost is addicting! Bought a W211 E55 as a DD. It was a fast, comfy people mover, but not a sports car like a Porsche. Porsche, there is no substitute.

1971 MGB and 1969 Pontiac GTO, bought both new. The GTO when I graduated from college and then left for the service and the MGB bought in Germany. Wish I had both today. Oh yeah, and a BMW Bavaria that I brought back from Germany. In 1998 a BMW M3.

Mostly older Datsun Z cars. I wish I would have kept my low serial # 1971 240Z, really nice car. Also had a 70 GTO, and a 68 Dodge Dart GTS.

After graduating from the import crowd, my 911 was what I consider my first real sports car. Last year A Lotus Evora joined the stable. I considered another "vintage" car but modern tech won the battle.

I chose the Evora for many reasons. The Toyota drivetrain offers reliability and parts availability. It's very pretty in person, pictures can't seem to capture all the curves. It's very comfortable to drive and roomy inside. I also think these cars are nearing the bottom of their depreciation curve which to me represents a value. They are relatively rare and I've always liked having something different. On the downside, it could use more power but hey, what can't! It's entertaining enough to drive with what it has and I feel special every time I drive her. I can't say the same for the Craftsman mower

Not supercars by any stretch but high performance in ways:

78 Camaro LT with a 400 ci smallblock with a shot of nitrous. Street legal but only good in a straight line. High 11s on the hose at the drag strip.

94 Z28--stock LT1 with a 6 speed manual gearbox. Upgrades to exhaust, ignition, tires.

Very fun car with A/C and a stereo you could actually hear over the exhaust. Low 13s at the strip on street tires.

99 BMW touring--it only had the 6 cylinder but was a fun car to drive even as a wagon.

The Porsche 911 is the only real true sports car I've ever owned.

However, some do tell me my new to me daily, Dinan 5, e39, 540/6-spd is a "late model" muscle car. I'd be lying if I didn't agree.

I've had a lot of cars, definitely biased towards Porsches. As for the other sports/supercars (sorta) that I have owned:

2002 Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa - sounded like sex with Tubi exhaust but couldn't decide if it wanted to be a Ferrari 360 or Mercedes SL. Parts costs were staggering, F1 gearbox was crap. Interior was beautiful but cheaply made. Don't miss it.

2002 Audi S8 - incredibly competent, beautifully built, very reliable. Wish it had a stick.

2009 Mercedes C63 AMG - absolute monster of a car, best stock exhaust note ever. One of my favorites.

2012 Roush Stage 3 Phase 2 Mustang - 615 HP, surprisingly decent handling. Silly fun.

2011 Shelby GT500 - crazy good cruiser

2008 Shelby GT500 - my favorite Mustang, just sold it.

2000 Jaguar XJR - a recliner strapped to a rocket. Another favorite.

I had an 04 Subaru Sti when they came to the US, one of my favorite all time cars and I considered it the poor mans 993/996 TT at the time

I guess we started with the '86 MR2. The car looked like the box a Fiero came in, was way too small for me to get comfortable in and was very 'twitchy' on the edge. No forgiveness in the soul of that one.
I traded it for a used '87 924S and entered an amazing world of well built, comfortable, very capable cars. The '24 was your friend. It seemed to let you know when it was going to challenge you a little bit and made you feel like a hero with its responses.
A few years after selling the '24 , I got the '69 911 which needed enough work so I could afford it. I confess I was afraid of the dreaded trailing throttle oversteer, until I discovered you have to be driving so darned fast you have no business on the public highways if you invoke it. Again, smooth, comfortable and capable.
I thought I sold it to buy an old BMW R100 to restore, but "She who must be obeyed" pointed me in the direction of the '90 Miata. I remember looking at these 22 years before, but was 'upwardly mobile' at the time. Now I'm semi retired it is just right. Easy to work on, very capable, but not as comfortable. I can live with that.

So many toys. So little time.

My first car was a 1965 Chevy Impala, 350, 4 speed, 2 door (it was older than I was). I don't know that it was exotic, or terribly fast, but it was a ton of fun to drive, and the V-8 / manual trans aspect was awesome. I've also had a 1970 Buick skylark that was fairly tame, and a 1969 Buick Riviera.

My first sports car was a 1988 911 targa. Then I had a miata, then a turbo miata and now a 2008 Boxster S (special edition RS60 model) with PASM, and sport exhaust.

When I was born, dad had an MG Midget, he also had a big block nova and eventually a corvette. Before I was born he had lots of interesting stuff, several Corvairs, an Austin Healey 3000 and lots of other interesting stuff.

My neighbor has a 355 gts and its making me really tempted to mix up our garage. Common sense tells me I cant handle the maintenance cost as we are mostly DIY so maybe a 930 would fit better. Although it is tempting !

1967 Corvette Roadster. Red/Red, 390hp 427. I LOVED that car, but talk about afraid to drive it.

The guy before me restored it and put her through the whole NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold process. Every part was documented by serial number as original. I couldn't just buy a water pump from the local parts store. The damned original water pump had to be shipped off to some guy to be rebuilt at a crazy expense. Sold it for a 95 993 in 96. My first Porsche. Never looked back. The guy who bought it 19 years ago has put less than 100 miles on it. It just sits in his collection.
