The latest hack - US Govt Employees now?

I didn't see a thread on this started yet.

And CNN is reporting that China is to blame?

4 million government employees personal information compromised - geez. We better figure out how to better safeguard our data.

Almost all guv'mint is run on electronic programs these days, and the last few years has seen a real push towards Internet applications, i.e. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I can't do and/or document that I did my (Federal) job unless the computer and Internet is co-operating, and I'd say that happens at most about 75% of the time. I suspect denial of service attacks are responsible for most of it, probably from our friends in China, Russia, and NK.

It always amuses me that the weenies in IT require passwords so complex and convoluted that they must be written down (defeating the purpose), then require you to change them every 30 days. But they can't keep their own systems secure. Last time I checked, none of these massive hacks were because somebody's password was guessed.

"What's your password...I'm logging in remotely"

"A"

"Like, just the letter 'A'?"

"Yeah, like apple, but only the first letter"

"That's not very secure"

"Yes, but it's easy to remember"

One of the greatest videos ever made (albeit a bit old now) if you're into IT at all

Yes, I know, but then we cannot complain.
We are asking for it!

Why are humans doing this or that? Because we can.
