Doc's and those who have stayed at a Holiday Inn How long Till this is Better?
My sister fell off one of her horses yesterday. Didn't bounce well. 2.5 hrs in surgery. How long till she is better?

That depends almost entirely on how old she is and what kind of shape she is in.
|
Also, if she's a smoker. Smokers have a much slower recovery and less successful outcomes with bone fusion and fracture heeling.
Please wish her well for me. She will have several months of recovery and lot's of titanium. |
She's 52 and 107 1/2 lbs (like I know how much she weighs). Eats well and has a active lifestyle.

Doesn't smoke. Too smart for that. She has two degrees. B.Sc. & DVM

Attitude is everything.
I had a hip fully replaced in January and, with the help of the in house PT, maxed the program. I am 58 and I was walking a mile a day within a week. I know your sisters road ahead is much worse, but her willingness to focus on the PT, walk the pain threshold up, will mean everything. I don't smoke but have been known to have the occasional Crème de menthe (as told to Carson by Uecker). BTW, nothing I have ever said about Horsewomen applies to your sister:cool: |
Depends on a lot of stuff. If she bagged the artery to the head of the femur, she is getting a hemi-replacement.
Inspiration Spirometer, she needs one, like today if she does not already have one. Oh, she has to use it too. |
I'm no expert but I think she is lucky not to have broken her pelvis. From what I hear a busted pelvis is painful.

So I haven't stayed in a Holiday Inn in a while, but am I seeing the breaks correctly?

Shouldn't a DVM know a lot than us?

At 47 some idiot ran a stop sign into my 944. I shattered my pelvis in 10 places (femer ball went through socket) and broke 4 ribs and my foot in two places. I was in a wheel chair exclusively for a month and a walker for another month before I took my first solo steps....another 3 months of physical therapy, and I was able to limp back to work. Now (3 years later) no one can tell I ever had this problem, I worked on not limping and am very active. If she doesn't get off her butt and push herself, this will be a crippling injury that lasts the rest of her life.

They had her sitting in a chair today. Gave her a walker and said the bathroom was thataway. She said the pain was fine unless she moved. I told her about this thread and she said thanks for the well wishes. :)

My mom busted her femur and the surgeon said that one takes the longest to heal.
|
So....is her pelvis fractured ? Or not.

First of, good luck to your sister.
Second: Seriously? Three fractures on the pelvis? From a Jpeg of a picture of an ER X-Ray? Wow, I need more people that can say that from this in my practice. Once you recover from the lawsuit, that is... |
