Synthesizer Royalty

I had dinner Saturday night with Dave Smith (Prophet 5 + the MIDI interface), Roger Linn (LM-1 Drum machine) & Tom Oberheim (SEM modules etc etc). All of them (plus Robert Moog) changed the sound of music forever from the early 70s & on. It was an intimate dinner for 45 management people + special guests that we co-host every year at the close of Sweetwater’s Gearfest in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The wine flowed prodigiously (French of course ) & the food was spectacular. Good times. It almost made me forget about the 7 days I spent in scintillating FW . . .

Sweetwater btw, is a $500M Musical Instrument & Pro Gear vendor with an amazing facility in FW. If you are a musician or a gearhead, you have probably bought something from them.

I've spent a fair chunk with Sweetwater over the years. Really well run organization. Sounds like a fun evening.

Nice!

I used to have a '80s "tribute" area of my room and it had a Prophet 600, LM-1, Matrix 6, OBX, and DMX. (And a DX-7 and a Juno 106.)

Still have the Prophet 600! It and the DX-7 were the sound of Jr. High school for me.

I knew only a few here would get the significance of the names above but Baz's music thread would have significantly fewer posts without their contributions.

Very cool. I grew up listening to electronic music, and DJ/Produced music when I was younger. I'd love to have an old Roland TB-303 box or a Juno 60 to noodle with. A friend had an Octave Cat, essentially a rip off of the ARP Odyssey. Loved that thing.
