Expedition, bug out, camping trailer
So I have been wanting an M100 or M416 military trailer for some time to haul things around. I just can't bring my self to spending $1,000.00 plus on a rusted out hulk. So I have been contemplating building one. There's a guy on the Expedition Portal that builds some pretty cool stuff out of Jeep Wrangler tubs. He has even created various caps to fit. I know there is some pretty creative people her so, have any of you built your own? Post some pics please. I would like to see what you have done.
Here are a few cool trailers. NOT MY WORK. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Check out jk-forum and jkowners.
There a bunch of threads about homemade trailers like this. Really cool.

Chris, I'm on the JK forum. Great stuff. The black trailer in the first piuc and the yellow in the last are fiberglass. The guy who built the yellow trailer is awesome He built that Jeep pickup from a wrangler. I have an XK (Commander) I want something to match the Commander. If I am going to spend $1K+ on a rust hulk of an M100 then restore it, why not have something done from scratch?
Here's another cool rig. This is the real deal M100/416 ![]() |

A few of those have no brakes.
My #1 issue is that when you tow, you want the trailer to have good brakes. I bought a water trailer last year from Hammer Co. It uses a short trailer with tandem axles and surge brakes. |

I guess I am high jacking my own thread here but here goes. These two Jeeps were built by the guy that made the yellow trailer. The Gray Jeep is a CJ7 with a Chevy step side bed, the fender were sectioned to resemble the Gucho flares. The red jeep is a 2008 Wrangler lengthened 22.5" with a stepside bed added.
