1955 911 Rs?
No such thing I presume.
The question I have, as I am always working on stuff in the garage, kids come by to have me adjust their brakes and work on their bikes which is fine, and I get em back on the road. They're all around 13 years old. They saw my electric scooter, and they wanted to ride it. There are 4 or 5 of em that come by a couple of times a week. I called one kid's parents, and she said it was fine, but I didn't bother to call the others. I slap a bike helmet on em, make sure they have shoes, and ask him if their parents said it was okay. They tell me yes, and go on their way. They horse around on it til the charge is gone, then bring it back. As parents, how many of you are going to sue me to full extent of the law if one of em gets hurt? In CA electric scooters are like bicyles or skateboards. They're legal unlike minibikes, provided kids have helmets. How stupid am I? I know I'm stupid...

Hey Kurt - you're not stupid. I think you are pretty cool for helping the kids with their bikes and stuff. Not many people pay much attention to 13 year olds, hence why they get into trouble. They probably think you are the coolest guy in the neighborhood.
As far as the scooter goes, let 'em have fun. Just give them a safety briefing before they ride and let them know (firmly) that if they screw up, no more riding. Couldn't hurt to check your insurance just in case...

This day in time, I say yes it can happen. I carry an extra $300,000 liability on my homeowner's policy. Cheap, like 20 or 30 bucks a year. If you don't have it, check with your agent. My 13 year old son was hit by a car in front of the house this summer. Rookie officer wrote the report as to look like his fault. He was in a no passing, double striped lane, going the proper direction, she came up behind and ran over him. She stated my son swerved in front of her car. Well, in my mind he should have had control of the lane. My homeowner's had to pay for the damage to her car. Crazy huh?

You're a RETRO guy! Congratulations. My childhood was blessed with neighbors who let us fool around without thought of lawsuits. Sure, we got hurt sometimes, but we had a great time in our neighborhood thanks to parents who remembered what it was like to be a kid.
P.S. Get the umbrella policy.

Like Robert said, get the extra insurance and let them have some fun.

Man, if you can accept the risk to yourself, I say keep it up. These days kids need all the positive influences they can get, even if the activities might not be the safest around. You're doing a big favor to them and maybe someday they'll remember that and do it for someone else.

My Lawyer Is Johnny Johnny
Make sure U check with the parents to make sure it's OK. Might just head off some trouble if a kid does get hurt. Letting the parents know what is going on is important to. I also think it may make it tougher to for them to sue if they were informed, and U keep a couple of notes as to date time and what the conversation was about and throw it in a little file in the drawer. Just in case, cause we do live in a sue happy country
