Moving to Daly City
Moving to Daly City by August and would like to know where I can settle within a 40 to 60 mile commute so I can get cheaper accommodation. Most preferred is south of Daly City (San Bruno, San Jose, Palo Alto, etc).
1. Since its just me, I am looking for a room, studio or 1 bedroom - cheaper the better so I can save and buy parts, lol. 2. I'll bring 2 cars so I prefer a carport/garage and other car is ok on street parking Any suggestions?

south of Daly City. two things.
1. $$$$$..rents are insane. insane. oddly enough, i think Daly City itself is fairly (relatively) affordable. my bud just moved away from South City and he left "okay" rent. 2. the further south..the commute blows. coming from Palo Alto would be crushing. i dont qualify to even discuss the rents from the Palo Alto area.. HWY 101 is awful. 280 marginally better, but it can be really bad as well. i'd argue that the hub is Silicon Valley, and rents would increase as you approach it.

good luck on that. the dot bombers have driven costs out of the park. Half Moon Bay might be a good choice, though the traffic over the hill is nuts. Daly City or Foster City are not particularly high end places so there may be something there. Look right around SFO

+1 what others have said, going south only will make it worse. I would look as far as San Mateo and Redwood City but no further south. Then go look West. The commute from HMB will suck unless you are able to work off schedule, i.e. leave home at noon.
Housing has gone insane in this area. There are practically no rentals, even the hotels are booked with short term housing. I just bailed out of the South Bay. Rent for a decent 3 bedroom home is $6k plus. What's worse, a lot of these areas aren't even desirable besides being close to the .coms It is just stripmall city ... G |

I live in Half Moon Bay, and the commute to Daly City would not be too bad. It's the tourist traffic on the weekends that bring everything to a halt. Going through the Devil's Slide tunnel is fine.
But the best rents and highest inventory will be in Daly City or Pacifica.

Hi again, anybody knows an enclosed garage space for rent in Daly City? Looks like i will settle in the city by next week but no available garage or carport included in the accommodation that I got. Otherwise, I will leave it in SoCal until I get a space near me.
