The tree narrowly misses the ladder!

Last tree I cut down was a 35-40 foot pine that was dead. I did it the old, old fashioned way with an ax. I did have a 75' rope 1/3 of the way down and tied to the truck with tension. It was fun, but the rest I have all done with a chain saw. I have always had people with more experience helping and that helps quite a bit. It isn't bad if you are careful and watch what you are doing, but if you are uncomfortable, hire it out.

I decided to to it myself. Thought this looked like a good candidate to pop my cherry. Some might remember I joined a mentoring organization about 18 months ago. I decided to have my mentee help and teach him how to use a chainsaw. Here is the video a few requested. Sorry, no drama. I don't know how to edit, so you get a close up of my ugly mug as a turn off the video.

1. Can you please post a pic from this angle as to where the tree finally fell? Did you get your wish?
2. What was that second guy doing? What purpose was that line?

This is important stuff. Please update as soon as possible!
Thanks!
Ron

See the small fire pit on the right. It fell on that.

I had him pull on a rope to help make sure it fell the right way and to make him feel like he was helping. I had him cut up the into 4-5 foot sections.

Congrats!!!!
Ironically after you posted your thread, I noticed a dead pine in my yard......
Stay tuned my friends for the next installment of PPOT tree cutting as I tackle this dead off center pine which threatens my daughter's play house! I will start a thread soon on the next "hold my beer and watch this" non professional tree cutting adventure!

When trees grow too close together, they get tall and spindly.
Canopy is now 100' instead of 50'.
So thin the pack.
Let them breathe and spread their arms.

Isn't that the truth! This was a plot of land where a farmer had planted several acres of white pines, never thinned them out, and they crowded themselves big time. The limbs have all died back to a point where they were unhealthy, so I cleared an acre or so away from our house. This tree is a virginia pine and all the virginia pines have gotten diseased and and are dying in the yard. Basically, it's a yard full of crap. -This from my wife, who's dad owns a lumber mill. I will start a new thread soon when I get up the gumption to tackle this nuisance! (Tomorrow?)

Nice :)

Looks like you had eye protection but we really need to talk about the other safety gear you should wear when operating a chainsaw. :)
