Those are sandals.

Thongs and Sandals are similar but different.

Egyptian flip flops from 3500 years ago.

Maybe it's a coastal/beach thing. I grew up in FL, so barefoot or minimal footwear were the thing.

Flip flops are a gay thing? Weird. That must just be in some weird little corners of the world.

I really tried getting into the Five Fingers, but just couldn't. They're supposed to be great for running, etc. but they've got to be the most uncomfortable things I've ever put my feet into. Played in a beach tournament down in Mexico on some sand that was notoriously full of glass, so bought them for that. Full of sand within minutes, pinky toe felt way out of whack, etc. Worst $100 I ever spent, I'd say.

I wear Huaraches + slip ins + sport sandals + leather sandals + tee shirts + cargo shorts but no real flip flops therefore I am still a lazy slob according to 1 persons perspective.

But I do not give a flying F what anyone thinks about me when they first take a look.

I only begin to weed other people out once they start talking not by what they are wearing.

Usually down in Mexico or at a zapateria in the hispanic areas. There's an old guy on Olvera Street in L.A. that sells them, otherwise tough to find. What size shoe do you wear?

Shorts T-shirt and flip flops are duty uniform here.

Yeah, I could see them sucking in the sand. I've never worn them on a beach. On a beach, I'd probably be barefoot. Otherwise, I love them, to me, most comfortable thing I've ever worn. The shape of your feet and what you're used to probably plays a big part of what you think about them. Most of the VFF that I have I purchased on clearance for 50-75% off. I have paid full price for a couple pairs. Most folks hate the bright colored models, and I don't care, so I can pick those up really cheaply.

I even had black leather and brown leather that I wore to work for a few years.

I have not worn flip flops since I was 9. I cant even Imagine a scenario where they would be appropriate for my lifestyle. No.offense to.my coastal sandal.wearing buddies, but when I see a man in flip flops, I cant help to think" "girly man". I know its silly.
Flip flops are not proper footwear for.getting anything done.
This thread has been very entertaining. Thanks.for the laughs.

Well, I haven't done this in a while, but flip flops are probably prefect for drinking a beer at an outdoor bar in some nice weather.

My kids and I worked a food drive this week and one of the girls dropped a can on her foot. She was wearing flip flops. Brilliant!

My wife loves her flip flops and actually wears them into the horse barn to take her chances with 1100 lb horses stomping on her toes (it has happened before). I have only ever worn one pair for a day or two until they annoyed me non-stop on getting stones, or sand between my shoes, and my feet. They also blew out very quickly and left me bare footed on a rocky path.

In the Summer, I almost exclusively wear dock sider boat shoes with no socks and shorts. If i'm going to be walking quite a bit, I wear short tube socks, and good tennis shoes to lessen the shock on my knees and ankles. If I am sitting in a lawn chair or just out in the yard, many times I go bare foot on the lush grass.

This last week I spent a few days around the thumb area of Michigan on vacation and hit a few beaches. I wish I had some of those full cover rubber soled water shoes, because the sand was mixed with small and large pebbles that were hell on bare feet.....still wouldn't wear flip-flops.

can pull off the look and the only disadvantage i see is you cannot run fast to escape the throng of summer warmed hot chicks trying to get with you and your perfect feet.

First off - if you obsess about your footwear you are probaby....well..you know. I wear Reef Fanning sandals, which are the same style as a flip flop, but heavier duty. They help my feet stay cool and are comfortable. I have pair of them, a pair of Timberland boat shoes, a lace up pair of boots for winter/motorcycle rides, and a pair black dress shoes I have not worn in years, thank GOD. I am retired, and free at last!

Wear 'em? Yes. but then again my wife thinks I have really nice feet. I dig them. Keeps mah feets cool. A little tough to drive in them. The lack of lateral support impedes my driving style

At the airport? No way, unless I am sure I don't have to take them off. Way too much scum on the floors.

Ghey? Maybe in some weird corners of the world. But then again I am leg man.
