Or you can be a judgmental fool.

Look, you can't help but make an initial assessment when your first see someone. The wise man does not let that blind him to what is really there.

Also, dressing casually is not even close to dressing like a lazy slob. Wearing flip flops, by themselves, does not make you look like a lazy slob unless the person looking on is a pretentious prick.

You guys are too funny. I don't wear flip flops often but a few times out of the month. I seem to kick siht accidentally all the time so I try to protect my poor toes as much as possible. I only wear running shoes. Shorts and tee shirts or a button down shirt long sleeve shirt 365 days out of the year. oh yeah, cargo shorts. Fancy dinners? They can eat without me if its that serious.

I always get a kick out of these younger men wear their business suit and tie where it really isn't necessary just to impress, God knows who? I was as a retirement "Thing" at a local Mexican joint for an old friend who retired as a high school counselor. This young early 30s young men who took over George's job with a full suit and tie hanging himself in 100 degree heat with a beer in hand. I can see the sweat dripping down his face and he was constantly wiping the sweat off. Why not take that tie and the coat off and relax. A bunch of us are in shorts and tee shirts. To me, that's a sign of lack of confidence. Is not the presentation, it is how you conduct yourself in a certain situation. A couple of my friends who work in management (office environment) tells me to drive a cleaner newer truck and put some big boy pants similar to Rusnak suggested in his earlier post. WTF do I gotta impress?

I'm sure you're really a misunderstood precious snowflake. But people really do go by their impression of you, as superficial as that may be.

You either choose to just accept it, or make a better impression. These are not my rules, it's just how it is.

I wear flip flops, shorts, and a ball cap nearly every day in the summer that I'm not working. I dress for success at work, but when I'm off, I don't give two ****s what anyone thinks of my clothes. I dress for my comfort not your preconceived notions.

I've met some guys that you would consider to dress like slobs, who could buy you several times over without blinking an eye.

Sorry, never judge someone based on what they wear or drive. Some people don't give a crap about what others think of them, usually its because they are sitting on a fat bank account and are fine with life on their terms. I'd rather deal with a rich guy in shorts, than a wannabe rich guy in a cheap suit...

Sidney, I'm building $5M worth of property for myself right now. And even I have to admit that it's important what others think. That's part of being a grownup.

This. Until a nasty bout with plantar fasciitis, I would have never made flip flops my first choice. I simply had to have arch support every time I put weight on my foot and flip flops are the most convenient way to do that. Now they're about all I wear when even remotely appropriate. The best ever for arch support were the Solomon RX series but they are no longer made. Olukai are my current go to flip flops specifically the Hokua. -J

Hokua
