The great thing about those type of flip-flops (called 'slides' as you know) is you CAN wear your socks!

That said.....somewhere I have a pair of those socks made for thong type flip flops with the separate big toe....now those were cool!

In Ohio the flip-flop ensemble for women is to wear them with flannel pajama bottoms - everywhere. I saw a girl dressed in flip-flops and pajama bottoms at a $100 a plate dinner.

I drive barefoot all the time, in the summer. I do the same, slip them right under the seat. Considering, I spend most of my time wearing tactical or fire boots, I like having my feet free and aired out. So it's either flip-flops, Vans or boat shoes.

Maybe I should look at some Crocs for summer. Seems they make them in different width sizing now.

This is where I'm at as well. My wife just bought me a pair of OOFOS flip flops that she said are good for PF. I used to walk around barefoot around the house. I'm going to try wearing those. I don't like wearing them and doubt I'll wear them too much outside of the house.

I like slippers. I've been retired since 2003 and t-shirt, shorts and slippers used to be my daily dress. Last year, the gf bought me some Tommy Bahama boat shoes that are really, really light and have been buying them ever since. If I never got those I'd be burning up slippers every three months, and that's with a rotation of boat shoes. I guess I've matured to daily shoe use since I hit 50.

Bill - I love my Crocs! VERY comfortable but you have to get a style that fits you and feels right. I have purchased many directly from Crocs.com but sometimes retail stores stock them. If you buy a pair and decide they aren't what you want you can get a refund too. The Croc Classic is a pretty safe style to go with for a first time user. Those air holes provide a ton of ventilation - something a guy like you would REALLY appreciate!

What a strange thread. I wear the Adidas rubber sandals for years in the summer, I tend to take a lot of long road trips and like kicking them off and driving barefoot when it's hot. I had a PU truck a couple years ago this the PO had put a piece of AstroTurf in as a floor mat on drivers side, it was almost like having my bare feet in the grass. Sublime.

I don't quite understand Rusnak's POV, (other than he likes being a contrary guy); whom am I supposed to be making an impression on when I go to Home Depot or stop for gas or the dozens of other times that strangers might see my footwear? Some prick with a mediocre life who's obsessed with status uniforms in society?

I actually do agree that it has value to dress appropriately for various situations and that this can vary for different regions and whether urban/rural/etc. When you are in the bread basket of America, (farm country anywhere), men all pretty much dress the same with flannel shirts and trucker hats to be warm and comfortable and keep the sun off their nose. You cannot tell who the gazillionaires are and I like it like that. In my crowd, you would look down on people who are brilliant, incredibly generous and wealthy beyond your dreams. People whose biggest challenge is how to give away hundreds of millions this year. The dress code is a little different from someone who thinks that $5M is a huge amount of RE.
