I wonder if the umlat could be made to look like two little Fuchs....that would help make the connection.

# 38 is a great logo, but you'll probably have to call the company Tru 6 or Tru Six or even True 6 or True Six if you expect people to find it. It's also hard to use a cool logo in documents. And it is a COOL logo!

Seriously, it will definitely be incumbent upon me to connect the name with that I only sell and work on used air-cooled 911 parts and cars. That's part of the fun.

One of the things that I wanted to eschew was a kitschy name: no Renn or Werks or umlauts, stuff like that. It's been done and many have done it well, but that time has passed. Toby's suggestion was a good one though and I really like the Trü6 name as logo. It could also be the next IKEA 6 drawer dresser.

I wanted something easy to say and type in and lend itself to a reasonable logo. I think we're there. Now it's up to me to let people know what it's about.

Like your Etesian Eng., I don't think Tru6 will bowl anyone over. But if you like it, and you can get it to stick in your customer's mind, might be worth telling your story with your name.

I just started another company that does aero work in the trucking industry (designing skirts and other aero devices) as well as wind tunnels, etc.

We all really liked Etesian Engineering - Etesian is a Greek name for strong winds in the Aegean Sea. Kind of neat.

When we took it out of our little group, it didn't play well. Cute but, "que"?

Anyway, my take on the name and logo isn't negative at all.

Thanks Patrick! Here's where that one gets messy. I have purchased trü6.com and tru-6.com. Tru6.com is owned by a squatter.

For all email and messaging, I would use tru-6.com. But when you go to the tru-6.com website, it will autoforward to you to trü6.com. So whether you use the messaging URL or know how to hit option u-u to create an umlaut, you'll always get there, but never really need to.

So here's the $20,000 question. Is that trying too hard?

This is the fun part. BTW, I used Legal Zoom for the aero LLC and it was cheap and the support is brilliant.

Thanks! I'll go with legal zoom then. Was going to create another S corp but will have to look at the LLC model. I know both have pass through taxation, an important aspect to setting this company up.

LLC worked for now and the whole set-up, with Deleware incorporation was very cheap and easy.

We already have an existing customer base and there is just two of us for no so not a lot of complications. As we grow we can always morph into an S Corp of that makes sense.

You're going to build name value for trü6.com, but the average joe is not going to know how to get an umlaut, or he will ignore it as advertising fluff, and will end up at Tru6.com.

Now you're building value for that site, or you're losing customers. Eventually, the owner of Tru6.com wises up and decides you should pay him for the domain. A lot. You don't pay him and he decides to make it a porn hub? What does that do to your customers who end up there?

But I also like the idea Tobra posted earlier, Tru with an umlaut u.

I kind of like the visual of hyphenated version; but then this is just evidence of why I'm not a designer.

You make some good points here. Will have to consider them. Glad I've purchased every permutation of URL I can. Not sure why the squatter hasn't replied. Maybe he's waiting for the second email to gauge desperation. Who knows.

In terms of the last one though, again, my reply is "Pelican Parts."

One more thing, this company will be small and personal. I won't be advertising in Pano anytime soon.

I am going back and forth on it. Normally I'm decisive to a fault. I like the look of the umlaut but I know it's kitschy. I like the look of a Tru dot 6 version too, it's cleaner, simpler, but the green umlaut and 6 have a great appeal to me visually.

I was thinking about that very thing as I typed my comment. I'm not sure if it is an "exception to the rule" or if Wayne had to market heavily in the early years until he built his reputation and fan base.

It may work out fine, but I still run into Porsche owners at PCA meets and at the track who have no idea what Pelican is. I call this lost opportunity.

Of course, advertising helps. MM ran ads in the Porsche magazines and enjoyed a steady business in spite of their reputation.
