Defective High Capacity Magazines for Mini 14?
LEO friend of mine got some 20 and 30 round magazines, because he can, and spent a pretty penny getting the OEM gear, as the talk around the campfire is that the aftermarket is no bueno. We went out to go shooting, he was psyched because he had the red dot sight too,
They are no good, won't feed, tried in his and mine. On close examination, they are significantly different. You can see where the top of it gets hit as it cycles. Anyone else hear of this issue.

Same deal with M1A (M14) magazines. There's a difference in quality.

I had the same issue with my Magpul AR15 magazines. I tossed them.

Here is what I have experienced...
I couldn't get 10 round mags when I got my first Mini 14. Chambered 5.56/.223. So I picked up three John Mason 10 rounders and three Pro-Mag 10 round mags. Contrary to what I had been reading about after market mags, they work fine. Then Ruger offered 10 round mags (I live in California). I bought four and of them and two would not snap into place in the mag well. The rectangular spot welded plate in the front of the mag on two of them was too high. About 1/64th of an inch. I was disappointed because of all the companys offering Mini 14 mags, you would think Ruger would be the highest quality. I ground off a 64th of an inch from the top of the plates and they work perfect now. No fails of any kind and are 100 percent reliable. The high caps you tried... I can't comment on. |
