Oops, "Red Raiders" are the answer you're looking for.

A buddy and I were taking a break, standing on the flight line in Bien Hoa, Viet Nam...he was having a cig.
All of a sudden I felt a thud and deep pain on my temple...I feel to the ground...I thought for sure I had been shot.
As I got up, my buddy placed his pack of Marlboro cigs down next to a dazed and confused brown beetle...they were the same size.
.
Some nasty-ass critters here in AZ, too. Huge insects give me the creeps!

I hold a model train camp every summer for kids. One year they captured a large beetle and strapped it to a flat car.

OK, that beetle on the flat car is something our children would do!

Probably a male Cicada killer. Even though they don't have a stinger, you got bigger stones than me. In my five years in Houston, I ran like a little girl every time. Screaming, too

Ever seen one of these bad boys? The Cow Killer? Wasp without wings. Name comes from the intensity of the sting. Saw two on my driveway across those years. Should have a "No Step" sign on them

I've seen some big centipedes but this one is a whopper! Would pack one heck of a bite too. I didn't take the photo - taken in Austin.

Gotta love Tejas!

We have some of those here at work... I have been told they deliver one heck of a nasty sting... I'm taking their word for it.

Funny, I'm not put off in the least by snakes/reptiles... but huge bugs? No thank you!

Texas wasps are mean mofos!
