All-American 4th of July

How was yours? Post some pics if you've got 'em.

I spent mine on Madeline Island in Lake Superior, Wisconsin. We've been hanging out up here since the early '70s, at various times my dad has owned a house and other land and businesses here. It's a special place. I spread some of his ashes on the island as per his wishes. It was a great weekend.

I wish that my fireworks pics turned out better, (great show from the dock of Beach Club), but here are some from the parade and leaving on the ferry:

What's the deal with all the people in the first couple photos wearing deer masks; local tradition or something?

Yeah, I think so. They were from the MI art school, didn't want to grille them about it. (Hehe).

Appreciated

And I was thinking maybe you were from the area and knew something about the deer masks. Maybe it was just a project they did at the school. Thanks, though

There were lots of people in the lake, everywhere. I'll see if I have any pics of that.

Yeah, do you know anything go about the Packard? Thought it was a Studie when I saw it, I'm not familiar with it. Love Packards, though. The owner was a guy about 70, his dad bought it new when he was in HS and he'd been driving it since 1958. Pretty cool.

Very cool. We spent two days on the lake, shooting fireworks at night, and drinking a lot of beer.

Since I've got a few people looking, anyone that can tell me about this good-looking SOB? It's obviously a CC fiberglass ski boat but anything else? How old, etc.? Thx

Packard went bankrupt and Studebaker bought them.

So Studebaker made slightly modified Studebakers (cosmetic mods only) with the Packard name on them... only for a year or two.

Then Studebaker went under.

Thanks for sharing the pics with us, Denis. From time to time I miss that part of the country.

I don't know for sure but I've looked at a lot of boats, that looks early to mid 1990s to me Denis. CC makes a nice looking boat.

I went to the California Wolf Center in Julian and then to my favorite Sichuan place in San Diego.

It actually looks like a competition ski boat. If you zoom in, you can see the big steel hoop at rear of convertible top for tow line. It's been a lot of years since I've watched any serious competitive water skiing but that right there looks like the definition of fun to me. Like you look up "fun" in the dictionary and that's one of the pictures.

My cousins used to be big water skiers. They held the WS show at the Minneapolis Aquatennial every summer when I was a kid and my cousin Frank Beddor Jr. is in the Guiness BWR for water skiing the entire length of the Mississippi back in the '50s.

Would that hull be painted or is that color-impregnated fiberglass?
