Apple OS X Yosemite is full of baby poo

I need to get rid of it. How do you revert back to Mavericks, or even Mountain Lion?

I'm going to punch my Mac in the face and go back to an IBM/ Windows rig if I can't de-infect my laptop of this vile scourge.

I couldn't agree more. 45-50k photos on my computer and they say the will no longer support Aperture. I'm looking in to moving to a PC. As far as I can tell you cannot move back.

I'm still on Mavericks and happy as a clam.

I will say, I have been eyeing MS Surfaces. Pretty damn slick.

I am still on Mavericks and my opinion is Apple became Microsoft the day after Steve Jobs' funeral. Things I never had trouble with, or were perfectly intuitive and just worked now are all F'ed up like a committee of Microsoft and Lotus Notes designers, programmers and middle managers tried their "very best" before releasing them.

Tim Cook needs a Speeder b tch slap like no one else for F'ing up the best products in the world.

No, I went straight to plaid with skinny jeans. You try Yosemite and tell me if you want to punch your MacBook in the face within days.

I got used to Yosemite already. I hated it at first but I don't mind it too bad now. Adobe creative cloud crashes all the time but it's because Adobe engineers are all too busy smoking crack to fix anything.

That said... Apple is in huge decline in the creative industry. They are a watch maker now after all. I suppose that's more important than making professional apps.

I don't use the video editing or professional photo apps. For me, Yosemite has been an easy transition from Mavericks. I think it took a couple days then I forgot I'd upgraded at all.

I didn't like Yosemite at first. I didn't want to upgrade, but there was some app I needed on my office computer and it required Yosemite. After I tried the app I didn't like it and dumped it, but was stuck with Yosemite. I'm sort of used to it now. It's annoying that it wants to integrate all my devices into one big cyber clusterfluck in the cloud and keeps asking me for access to my keychain. I want to keep my work computer separate from my laptop, phone, and iPad as much as possible. That is the exact opposite of what Yosemite wants, so it's always asking for my password. I'm not at the point of having bad words for it, but it is a bit annoying and I don't see any advantage over the previous version of the OS.

^ Oh goody. That part hasn't started yet for me. I use memory intensive programs, and Yosemite just freezes up. I can't navigate out of Safari without shutting it down, and files won't open on the remote HD through Finder anymore. I bought my VP Operations a 15" MBP with Retina last week. It'll be interesting to see if her machine works better with Yosemite than mine. She also has keychain shut off.

Figure out what is using your memory. Use Activity Monitor.

There was a networking process, "discoveryd", that sucked memory. This was fixed in 10.10.4.

Terminal command "sudo purge" will clear memory cache.

I have 8 GB RAM on my MacBook Pro Retina and it seems fine for several apps including a Parallels/Win 10.

16 GB RAM on the elderly Mac Mini 2010 is also working fine for a big iPhoto library (about 200 GB) and an equally big iTunes library to be in use at the same time.

How much memory do you have installed?

There's been a push from Apple to merge OSX and iOS as much as humanly possible, ever since the Ipad came along... It's been done to the detriment of OSX for sure. I'm used to Yosemite now, still beats the alternative I work on everyday (various flavors of windoze), but yeah, it kinda sucked initially and did not play too nice with my older Adobe stuff... Nothing that can't be fixed with a little googling... It's too bad Macintosh as a platform is now a second class citizen at Apple behind all the gadgets, including effing watches which nobody is buying anymore ;-) (Hint: they're thick and ugly!)

I wish they'd focus a little more on their computer hardware, software, and enterprise integration - they are finally making inroads in the enterprise world and are shooting themselves in the foot giving the OS a more and more IOS "look and feel" and dumbed down interface...

Unlike the homophobic poster above, I like to blame Jony Ive instead for the look and feel, not a fan of the last releases interface...

hey, what happened to the "ignore list" on the board, is it gone ?
