Now in 993 land ...
|
Reminds me why I don't have a TV. It is unbearable.
Many people are not very smart. That's not new. It has always been that way. Growing up in a small town was an eye opener in that regard. You personally knew about 500 people and got a good sample of intelligence level and how people tick. If you live in a large town, you will never see that. G |

I don't necessarily care about the commercials. There are a lot more that I think are (more) stupid.
I've had Liberty Mutual insurance coverage on the autos (5 vehicles - but not the P car) and the home for about 5 or 6 years. I've gone to half a dozen insurance companies (and gone to independent agents for them to find coverage as well) for quotes - no one has come CLOSE to the coverage and premiums I have from LM.

Progressive ... meh
I really don't much trust insurance co's, --they need to perform on claims, not just policy cost-- and Progressive I trust the least. Read: no matter how good of a deal they proposed, I would never give them my business.

Speaking of this had an 'awesome' rate offer from these guys through my gov Credit Union. Annual rate was only $500+ more than my current ins co................I told the rep I guess the additional amount was to pay for all the TV spots I see.....

No way in hell I'll buy any Liberty Mutual policies unless AT LEAST ONE of the people in the commercials is an autistic lesbian. Now THAT's diversity.

Have you seen Progressive's commercials?- Besides being leftist issues supporters their commercials obviously are geared towards the same group.
"PAY FOR THE COVERAGE YOU WANT!!"- What a novel concept, you insure more you pay more - THen again, the average leftist doesn't know how buying insurance (HC or otherwise) actually works....rjp

When I was in Regulatory Affairs a big part of my job was keeping marketing under control. You wouldn't believe the demographic data they gathered in order to define their target.

When I had a crippling back injury a decade plus ago, Liberty Mutual was the company insurer.
They first bounced me around from sheister PT to sheister PT for a year and a half. I finally ended up seeing a doctor. A spinal specialist. One day just before an appointment, a L.M. 'nurse' called and said she was going to attend in person and "advise the doctor" as to what treatments were appropriate. She wasn't an RN or even an LVN. She was a CNA at best. To 'advise' a doctor. She refused to give me her license # to verify any medical credentials and hung up several times. I've still got the recording somewhere. Liberty Mutual went to great lengths to avoid paying on my policy. But they still had plenty of money for sponsoring NPR segments every single day. "Responsibility. What's your policy?"

"Explain Liberty Mutual's target audience to me."
~~~~~~~~` Well, from the high number of blacks in their commercials, it appears to be 12.7% of the US population.
They run the crap out of that commercial here in Charleston. People in the area don't seem to be that bright, financially. I've never seen so many check cashing and payday/auto loan places in one place until I moved here.
You figure out real quick how good your insurance is after a major accident. 3 years ago, an underinsured motorist (state minimum coverage) ran a stop sign and plowed into my 83 Porsche with both of us doing about 60 mph. Obviously, the car was a total loss, and was settled up fairly quickly. My injuries, on the other hand came out to about $85,000, and was $60,000 over his coverage, which I would have had to cover myself if it weren't for the good coverage that I have. My insurance company stepped up and gave me a pain and suffering settlement that covered all my expenses, and a nice chunk left over. I'm sure my ins co has avenues for recovering that payout from his insurance company.
In a related note, after the other guys insurance company (Gieco) paid me for the car, and I signed off the title, it sat in a holding yard for 6 months collecting a daily storage fee, that Gieco then tried to have me pay by saying they never got the title. |
I got quotes from 3 different insurance companies. The most expensive was HALF the rates LM was charging me for the same coverages. I dropped them, of course, even after I explained to them why after 20 years with NO claims. It seemed like 'brand loyalty' was part of a foreign language to them. They would not budge on their premiums and had no explanation for why my rates were so high. |
I don't remember seeing ANY insurance commercials that I like. Most are actually extremely annoying - such as the Liberty Mutual ones the OP points out.
Like Matt said....they are designed to reach the shallow end of the gene pool. While we're on the subject.....another annoyance for me is the news programs who insist on reminding us "We were the only news company on the scene or to report this." or "As seen ONLY on XXX News!" or "Giving you what you need to know." Just shut up and report the news, please.....
CNN is really bad about this. I care more about accuracy than exclusivity. I actually like the Liberty Mutual ad with the girl talking about her car named Brad. She is pretty and has a very expressive face. The commercial is even better with the sound turned off.
.... and my wife thinks I am the ONLY one that is annoyed by commercials. I often say "I need to write then a letter" when one is especially bothersome.
Yeah, yeah, I know you can mute them. There is a local one for a dance studio that uses a very urban song that annoys the crap out of me. I think the song is called "bounce" and I have no idea who does it but the lyrics are more suited to the club scene. Now get the F off my GD lawn!!!
