EZ Pass NY erroneous charge

So I get a new tag sent to me along with a return mailer supposedly shielding the tag. I install the new tag and put the old tag in the mail back to EZ Pass.

Fast forward 6 weeks and I just get my statement which I check monthly for any erroneous charges. There is a charge for $14.54 from the return tag, B3 to exit 50, the entire length of the NY State Thruway. So I call EZ Pass and after being on hold for an inordinate period I'm told the the tag must have set off the charge when it went through the toll BUT IN THE MAIL TRUCK on the way back to wherever it goes. They issued credit for the charge. Problem solved!

How many folks don't check their EZ Pass statement, good way for the state to make a few extra bucks.

Sure sounds like a scam to me. Check your statements!!

Garage
The instructions that came with my IPASS say to wrap it in foil if I need to ship it back to prevent it being read while in transit- of course you would think being I closed in a steel trailer would do the same? Maybe depends where it was packed, or our trailers built of fiberglass or something?

A lot of the mail trailers I've seen actually have fiberglass/plastic roofs.
