What kind of spider is this?

Originally thought it was a black widow, but apparently not. Anybody recognize this one? Sidney says brown widow. Any other opinions?

That could be what they call the "false black widow", which is thought to be non-native to the Americas. Maybe from Europe.

Looks like a widow. there are several varieties.

Widows are easy to spot, look at the web. Is it haphazard and somewhat chaotic?

How about this creepy thing?
Pretty large, the body alone was about an inch long...

Yellow and black is an Orb Weaver.

When I was in high school I was riding my dirt bike down a trail and an orb weaver had built a web across the entire trail! Darn spider ended up suspended from my duck-bill visor right in front of my eyes! I managed to stop the bike without crashing before splattering the thing with my gloves. Still gives me chills.

And we always called those yeow spiders tomato spiders. Was always cool to throw a grasshopper in their webs and see how they pounced on them.

Yeah, but from what I've read a false widow builds a similar web as a brown or black widow. I'd just leave it to catch bugs, but not thrilled about the 100 eggs that it lays. That and it's about 3' away from my back door.

Any spiders near any entrance to the house are dead. That's the rule you should stick to. Dispose of the egg sack with fire too.

Most of the pictures I'm seeing show a brown widow with BROWN legs. This one has black legs.

It's not a brown widow. It could either be a juvenile Black widow or a false widow.
