Prime day deals suck!

All this hype about Amazon prime day deals and its a bunch of vitamins and harbor freight style tools! The whole "prime" concept of paying $100 plus the items are usually more expensive...confuses me. At least I found the oil fill plug I wanted on eBay and cheap. Rant over!

I never look at those deals. I want to buy the stuff I need, not the stuff other wants me to buy.

We have a Prime account. I haven't looked at the offers for todays prime event but I will say the prime membership has paid for itself in shipping costs.

A local radio guy had an interesting segment a while ago about Amazon Prime.

His wife was about to make an order without prime, then thought of having the husband make the purchase with his Prime account.

When logging on the same item with his computer, the price was higher!

Two computers looking at the same item at the same time, and the computer with a Prime account had a higher sale price.

Radio guy later had a spokesman from Amazon on the air to explain. Explanation was mostly mumbo-jumbo about price flexibility, that sometimes prime prices are more, sometimes less, yada yada, and Amazon only does what's best for the customer, YMMV.

I'm sure prime works wonderful for many people - but for me prime is still usually higher than price + shipping on ebay or an online seller. 2 day shipping is really nice...but the alternative is usually 3 days which I can live with.

I'll say this: homedepot.com has been really useful for buying really inexpensive tools. They list tons on their site that is not sold in stores. I just picked up an inverter welder for 262 shipped that was more on every other site. Not a bad place to peep real quick before pulling the trigger on a purchase elsewhere.

I also am not impressed with most of the "special" deals that I am seeing. I don't need cheap jewelry or dog treats. The way Amazon wants you to scroll through the deals is also a PIA.

There were a couple of deals that were OK. They had $50 off an Echo and a 50" Samsung 4K TV for $999. But, I don't want or need either of those.

I have found it is easier to follow the deals on this twitter feed, https://twitter.com/KinjaDeals

I haven't looked but what you guys are describing reminds me of "Going Out of Business Sale" where the store jacks up the price and then gives 25%....

Click click, stuff shows up at work in two days with a solid return policy. What's not to like?

I love my prime members hip for the free shipping and prime TV, but these deals are a flop.

It is worth $100 just in time and fuel costs.

I loathe going to the store these days. You have to first drive there and then hit the floor and go look for the item. Then they don't stock it. Then you have to keep the receipt to return it and wait in line at the customer service counter. Etc. Etc. I am actually very happy to buy at amazon at market price. it is one stop shopping - no entering information every time I am at a different site that has it for $5 less etc.

I do not go shopping when there is a "sale". I always shop when I need something. Then if it is on sale, of course I go for the item on sale. So I have not even checked what's up with "prime days".

Click click same day in some cases! I needed to replace a window lock last week before going out of town. They had same day delivery for $5. Beats the hell out of driving across town to home depot... Who by the way said that the lock I needed wasn't available.

For a while they had same day shipping for free here in AZ. I was loving it. Order car parts in the morning, and they were ready to put on when I got home. Cheaper than the auto parts stores too of course!

This!

The other day I had an order that likely had whatever person boxed up the order scratching their head. Some car stuff, computer stuff, household items, and some socks and other assorted things. I never even had to walk to my car much less go to the various stores. Perish the thought.

Amazon prime also give you access to a lot of free movies. I have watched more than a few. Full HD and streams right to my TV, no commercials, no coming attractions and best of all, free. Well just the Prime membership that I had already.

Yep. Nothing special. Did get me on there shopping for some stuff I needed anyway, but none of it was on sale. To claim this rivals Black Friday is a joke.

I do like Prime. The included streaming movies and music are worth the price of admission.
