Warning: Internet scam

FYI - if you are browsing and get a popup that flashes a bunch of warnings about firewalls etc and has an official looking message to call some MS support center 1-800
number, this is a tech support scam. It links to a website and fake tech support in India that "fixes" the problem for a fee. techlegent dot com is the site.

Don't ask how I know. It wasn't me.

Someone I know actually made the mistake of giving these characters his landline number.

Long story, I fixed his PC however they tried calling him for days afterwards.

I know (used to work for) a government official that fell for this. He gave them his government issued credit card and, well, we tax payers got taken for $800.

A "manager" on a client site actually paid the ransom to decrypt his files (Cryptolocker)... $600USD charged to his company credit card!
They sent him the key and it worked but his company's policy is not to pay the ransom. HR got involved. lol
