Banksy

What the guy does is remarkable and blurs the line between genius and insanity.

They are saying the publicity surrounding this has already increased the value 50%.

Was he in the room? Was he the buyer? Did it use AI to listen for a certain phrase? So many questions.

Did the winning bidder still pay for it?

I remember one stunt he pulled. He was in Central Park or thereabouts selling "fake" Banksy's for twenty bucks. It turned out they were the real deal LOL

I'm sure they did.

The print was not completely shredded, only half.

The shredding is part of the piece, intended, so it's not devalued.

According to reports, the high bidder will have the option to pay and keep it but not required.

People report a guy with a plastic bag being escorted out of the auction, maybe something in the bag? Also, being able to remotely start the shredder isn't rocket science so that's probably what happened. I wonder how long ago the shredder was put in there? My guess is auction houses will start examining any works they have more closely, from him or not

Well there you go...years apparently. Obviously battery operated, I wonder if that's the reason it seemed to stop half way through.

I'd suggest the "stop half way through" was intentional. Nothing Banksy does is by accident!

Banks has done a pretty good job staying anonymous, apparently. So I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that he was at the auction and pushed the button himself.

I'm sure the gallery was in on it. Think of all the world wide publicity they and Banksy have got.

That particular piece and frame had been together for 12 years...that is some pre-planning!

the incomplete shredding would seem proof that the intent was simply attention and not the actual destruction of the print.

I am so far outside the loop of appreciating "modern art" that I am on a different planet.

I will admit, that image is orders of magnitude better than the Pollock dribbling paint on the floor. I still can't imagine paying more than a few hundred bucks for it at most.

In the end, it was not my money, so I don't care. Much like a friend often says,

Not my farm, not my pig.
