I suspected that wasn't aluminum.
I've done a little work with aluminum, and it typically isn't cost effective for experimental works, at least not at this scale. Cool stuff.

You mean kinematics... and meh. That's nothing impressive in my world. Notice how badly the thing surges on the strides. (crap kinematics) ...but at least it's busy looking, I guess.

Its simple...maybe useless, but simple.
Most people that sit at the bar and in front of TV sets have not ever built a fly swatter. I give him a passing grade.

The article says it's wood.
It's a pretty cool hobby creation, but I don't see much utility in it.

Love it. I can see wheelchairs with fold up legs on each corner which also serve as handholds and braces.
Stairs/escalators/hills are no longer a problem for the disabled. Some designer will accomplish this with the right materials and funding.

"So how, exactly, do you build a drill-powered riding machine? Well, after developing a suitable set of wooden legs (modeled after those on the Strandbeest) Swan attached them to a worm drive shaft, an axle, and gear box. The entire drive assembly is held together with screws traditionally meant for woodworking, but even so, Swan says they're working out just fine for his purposes."

It's a hobby. It's not supposed to be useful.

It's pretty cool. I appreciate all the time and effort that went into it. Do you file this one under: "just because you can doesn't mean you should"
(kidding)I suppose there are far worse ways to to spend one's time than toiling away in their shop!

I think its pretty impressive. If I shared half the stuff I work on it sounds like I would be flamed, different strokes. |

The maker looks like he's having fun. That's all that matters

The guy cited as inspiration - Theo Jansen - does some amazing work but is a serious whackadoo.
