Do you have friends or buddies?
Maybe I'm showing my age, but I sort of cringe whenever I hear a grown man referring to one of his buddies. In my world, the term buddy generally went out of fashion when a kid moved onto "junior high." But it now seems every guy has a crew of "buddies." Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of friends. I'm just not sure when grown men started having buddies.
To sound even more cranky, I'll point out my theory behind the whole thing: It's just another incremental step in the de-masculinazation of the American male. |

i have plenty of "buds".
how is that feminizing us? are these buds all out together buying shoes or what? window treatments? i dont get it. it's just a term of manly endearment. helps if you're doing something manly, like sharpening and axe. "damn buddy! you just put a screaming edge on this axe!"

The term hunting buddies and fishing buddies has been used for as long as I can remember. Maybe you can start calling your friends your "posse". Kind of has an "urban edginess" to it.

I refer to other guys I know as "guys I know".

i have a core group of buddies. everyone is super busy these days. sometimes we can go extended periods of time without seeing each other.
when we do meet, the elapsed time evaporates. we fall right back where we left it last. gut wrenching laughs..like where your face hurts. we have had sad moments as well. these people, i would donate a kidney too, no question. i'd even drop off / pick up at the airport as well. what we call each other matters nothing. i'm sure it is everything from "brother" to "a-hole". i love my friends. they are dependable, and i make sure i can be depended on. one thing i have never called them..is "associate". seriously? my kidney!! airport!! rush hour traffic.. i'm there!!

I remember a saying growing up that went something like 'Friends are friends and pals are pals but buddies sleep together.'
Only guys I know are either friends or acquaintances. Don't think I have ever called another guy a buddy or a bud.
