+1 on the Wrecking Crew doc. Truly a labor of love from the great Tommy Tedesco's son.
I was mostly aware of the WC as the ubiquitous studio band that played on seemingly everything in the '60's, and that spawned Glen Campbell and Leon Russell. But the Carol Kaye stuff was a revelation. There's some nice credit/scenes with the WC in the recent Brian Wilson biopic Love and Mercy. They should have gotten half the credit for the seminal Pet Sounds. For anyone using the Songza app, they have a killer Wrecking Crew playlist that encapsulates the breadth of their skills nicely. |

Muscle Shoals is n Netflix and excellent as well.
Like the Wrecking Crew it's staggering how many hits The Swampers were responsible for.

There were some great studio musicians during that time: Funk Brothers, The Memphis Horns, Donald "Duck" Done sand Steve Croper. And don't forget "50 feet from Stardom", great back-up singers. All of these musicians were great! I'm glad to see they are getting their day in the sun.

We caught the Brian Wilson bio "Love and Mercy" the other day. Great show. Wrecking crew was all over much of his work.

Just caught "Beyond the Lighted Stage" streaming on Netflix. If you like Rush, this is worthwhile.

Carol Kaye. Great story.
Playing/teaching at 14 to Jazz Clubs to Record Dates for the money back to Jazz and Teaching... In a related story...studio legend Carol Kaye gives Gene Simmons a bass lesson "We weren't the The Wrecking Crew. We were The Clique." Last edited by 69 Soft Targa; 08-27-2015 at 07:23 PM.. |

There are a few others worth checking out as well: * The one about Journey's come-back with Arnel Pineda. * Beware of Mr. Baker (Ginger Baker). * Artifact (good insight on label shenanigans). * Who the F*** is Arthur Fogel (Canadian boy makes good, lol). * Keep on Keepin' on (Clark Terry). * Not in it for my health (Levon Helm). |
