1966 Mustang
Local guy is selling this:
I'm sure there is a lot "wrong", front spoiler cracked, color choices (interior & exterior) questionable, over the top intake, but my inner 12 year old would love to buy it (with cash of course ![]() High performance 289, Dual Quads on a Tunnel Ram, Doug Nash 5 speed, Hooker Headers. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I don't know what he's asking, but he probably values the god-awful visuals of that car. You could probably find a less determinedly f-ed up Mustang and have the enjoyment of putting all the fun mechanical goodies in it yourself for less money.

I'm betting the dual quads are way overkill on a 289. It'd probably perform better with a single 4. Unless the thing has crazy compression and a huge cam and is set to run at high rpms.
But it sure does look cool. How's it run? Have you driven it? At the right price, it might be fun. You could probably spend a little money improving it from the current state if it's got a decent foundation to work from. I'd want to go over it with a fine tooth comb, and I'd need to get a pretty good deal on one that's so worked over.

I'll pass.
I would rather buy a 6cyl mustang that I would need to change the engine, brakes, rear-end etc that has seen less stress and hacking.

Looks like fun to me. Wouldn't cost to much to tone down the look.

I'm with you, I got my licence in a 66 Stang, but it was nothing like that.

It's all a question of how much he values the "custom" work that was done. A decent stock 289 Mustang might be a better proposition.

Well, yeah... I'm not looking to buy (just bought a mini van after all)
![]() Just saw this posted and thought I would share. It is about ten blocks from my house, might be fun to stop by for a look and listen just for giggles. He is asking $20,000 (yeah, I know) but immediately PM'ed me he would take $18-16,000 If I were serious (I'm not) I would let it sit for a while and let the price come down. A guy in high school had something like this but with four two barrels... that thing would do wheelies!

I usually laugh at these modded hot rods. How much did he improve the brakes or suspension for handling?

It just depends what the price is and if it is rust free.

At this level of destruction, I would revert to a retro 60's modded look. Toss the air dam, wheels. Get some clone Cragar's, narrow front, wide back and jack the azz way up. Earl Scheib paint in pea green. A Sat. night tire and bleach burnout toy.

$20k is well into crack smoker territory. You can pick up decent classic Mustangs starting around $10k, it's really the only affordable '60s classic car left. A friend just sold his mint condition Mach 1 (genuine) for $35k. Built 351 with a 4-speed. It had a very original look but a number of resto-mod style upgrades that made it a fantastic driver.

I would start with the above hood bug catcher, as stated before, the motor would probably run better with a single 4 bbl carb and a sensible air intake. I would also trade the weld wheels for a nice Shelby knockoff or a Bullet style wheels with some good performance tires. Either paint it all black, or all burgundy, but not both. For the interior, I would refinish those seats to match the rest of the interior, and lose the fire extinguisher, and under dash gauge monstrosity.
This car would take some time and money to make it right, but you could recoop some funds from selling the go-fast goodies to a local kid. |

That car needs to be sold to a local kid. You'll spend three times what it is worth to make it right over what you would spend on a nicely upgraded but stock appearing 65 to 68 coupe. I say pass.
