This weekend I'm spending 3 nights in San Francisco - what to do? Staying just a couple blocks up from Fishermens Wharf.
Other than the common icky-tacky pod people tourist traps selling inflatable seagulls and neon color spray painted dead starfish, or like (Alcatraz, GG bridge, china town, eat/drink your way across the city) any current cool events or shows happening this weekend? Any off the beaten path destination, Must Eat Must Do's? places? Where would Anthony Bourdain go? Coming down from Seattle so I've got the west coast vibe, I'm just going to play tourist with the wife for a 24th wedding anniversary..........Long Hot Hotel Showers are the best! ![]() ![]() ![]() Pelican braintrust go into turbo overdrive, I'm showing up tomorrow night. ![]()

SFO has become a disgusting cesspool in many neighborhoods, tread carefully (by that I mean try not to step on a human turd garnishing the sidewalk)... nice restaurants tend to book months in advance... Alcatraz also ;-( Still you can find great places to eat at odd hours, especially ethnic ones... check out opentable for what's available... I'd recommend taking the Ferry round trip from the ferry building (nice) to Sausalito (pretty), nice views, nice ride, relaxing... You are sadly too early for the EASY gathering, and late for the monterey concours/auctions ;-)
Hotel showers in the city are more like high-pressure sandblasting with the eco-nozzles... I like Muir woods, it's 20 min from you but feels like another planet. |

Don Pistos
Chubby Noodle (inside of Amante) Tony's Pizza Mama's for breakfast. Get there early. All of those are in North Beach, but it's not far from fishermans wharf. |

If you're gonna do the Tonga Room (which I agree is highly advisable) you should do The Smugglers Cove too to complete your tiki adventure!

Back at the wharf, and all of the misery of tourists, you have to give some love at the Musée Mécanique - San Francisco's Antique Penny Arcade

From another thread I posted to about the same subject:
Don't miss the Alcatraz tour...get your tickets early. Check out the Musee Mecanique and tour the WWII submarine USS Pampanito...both down near Fisherman's Wharf. Try riding the Cable Cars too...the POWELL-HYDE line has the best views and the CALIFORNIA line is the least crowded. The Cable Car Museum is really interesting too. Head up to Twin Peaks for a fantastic 360° view of the City. Have a drink at the Top of the Mark on Nob Hill. The Disney Museum in the Presideo is pretty cool. It's not just about Disneyland, but more about Walt's life & career. For a little culture, check out the DeYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park. The Exploritorium is big fun for kids of all ages. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Driving around SF is a total PITA and trying to park a car in the downtown area is nearly impossible...use public transit if you can. And bring some warm clothes...summer weather in SF can still be quite chilly, especially in the evenings. This is what Anthony Bourdain would do in SF: What to Do in San Francisco

Was there last weekend. Alcatraz, Sausalito(my kids biked over the bridge), https://www.boudinbakery.com/index.cfm , Happy hour at Gold Dust Lounge.
Bus trip to Muir woods and wine tasting. And of course, they put on an earthquake for our trip, not sure you will be so lucky..... |

Exploratorium, figure to spend at least half a day. If the weather is nice, go rent a bike on Sunday when the park is closed to motorized vehicles and go to the Arboretum, get lunch and have a picnic.
