The Unofficial State Cars of America
Popular Mechanics teamed up with IHS automotive to comb through data and find the unofficial vehicles of each state. IHS examined the make and model of each vehicle purchased in the U.S. then determined the popularity by cross referencing that data with registration information.

State vehicle of Texas ought to be a pickup, F 150 in particular.

Kentucky has a bunch of them too, but really the state car is the Ford Mustang. It's rare that I pull up to an intersection and don't see at least one Mustang variant. They're even keeping the Mustang IIs alive here. You would never lose a game of Passout* here picking the Mustang.
*Passout is a kids road-trip game where each player names a model of car. Next time you see it, you hold your breath until you see another or until you... Typically devolves into chaos over offshoot models or customs, or siblings faking holding their breath. :-)

Subaru everywhere. Lots of broken ring lands, HG failures and oil burning...
Must be an OPEC conspiracy. rjp

That one is simple, Subaru can't make a solid knockoff of a VW flat four.

I'd bet the Volvo sales figures have something to do with the demise of Saab. Swedish cars do very well in winter.

Cars that are popular everywhere will have a hard time in this contest as its comparing to their sales in the other 49 states. If the F150 sells well everywhere, it won't outsell itself in one place more than another.
This data instead, highlights what car models don't sell well in the other 49 states compared to the state it sells well in.

Me thinks Volvo and Subaru paid for this study. In Louisiana, the 7 series BMW, I don't think so.

I've been told we have at least two just in Wichita, believe it or not. The S6 is a surprise, we didn't even get an Audi dealership until early 2015. People in KC must really love them.

I sure see alot of those stupid Chevy Avalanche truck/cars aroundwith their assanign styling, it seems to me like a vehicle that isn't a good truck or a good car....kinda like a modern day El-Camino.

We went on a road trip to Colorado in about 1981, and seeing all the Subarus there caused me to buy my first one. A Subie has been my daily driver ever since.
