Nice moment at a ball game

Went to Orioles game recently. Family a few rows behind us with a couple kids...one was even scoring the game (why I noticed...I like to score the game and my son takes over when I need him too).

anywho a foul ball drops on the shoulder of a very elderly lady in a wheelchair sitting right behind this family. the kid scoring was already up and got the ball after it bounced around. happy kid.

two minutes later he hands the ball to the lady that was hit.

he got a nice small applause from those who saw it.

if I'm that dad I would be beaming.

best part was the family didn't bask in the moment.

class people right there.

after the game we get to the car in the parking garage and someone (not me) left the interior lights on. wandering through garage looking for people with jumpers a family stops to help.

just great examples of good human beings.

Why do people score the game? Do you compare it to the official score/results? Can you get all that data? I see people doing this and never understood it or why. Tks

My wife and I picked up scoring BB games when our son was playing. My wife was usually picked by the manager to be the team score keeper and I would fill in for her at times. It becomes a habit after a while and you start remembering where plays were made and by who. It's also a great stress reliever when your kid is on the hill or at bat

I started doing it to keep me from pacing when my boy started playing catcher. Turns out it's a lot of fun and now I keep the paper book for our travel baseball team and try to do it when I can at mlb games. also have the radio broadcast going via one ear bud. really adds a lot of color to the game. there is a LOT going on on the ball field and scoring helps to open your eyes to it.

Scoring baseball relieves the boredom of actually watching it. Somebody needs to figure out a way to score those live 24/7 NASA feeds of the earth or those dormant volcano videos. MLB is probbly quashing every effort, though. It doesn't want the competition.

Yep.

I prefer to score how many times a player spits on camera. Some players feel the need to spit 3 or 4 times PER MINUTE! I have never understood the need to spit all the time. I can go weeks at a time without spitting. (Excluding brushing my teeth from that list)

It is a nice story and I do appreciate the fact the family could enjoy an activity and do the right thing just because it is the right thing. It is nice to hear that it does still happen on a regular basis.

Thanks for sharing Barettafan.....even though I sorta dropped out as a baseball fan after the year they had no post-season.......I still have fond memories of watching the Braves play almost every night on the Super Station and listening to the announcers "score the game" as we went along.....there's a lot of technical aspects to the game which by themselves make it interesting enough.

several years ago, also at an Orioles game with my then-4-year old son, several close foul balls in our area and no luck snagging one. But then one was caught a few rows up by a 10-11 year old boy. He saw my kid and came down to hand him the ball. Cheers erupted in the section. Good people here! And kudos to that young man's parents!
