Yep, with the last car I bought from a distance I wanted the VIN so I could do a Carfax. I bought it from someone else on an enthusiast board though, so it's somewhat slightly less anonymous than CL. If the seller asked me to check in with someone local from the forum just to verify that I am in fact real I'd have been happy to.
