Where to Holiday when you live in the sub tropics

Some of you live in vacation destinations. Where do you go to Holiday when you already live in paradise?

Other vacation destinations.....

I like to go to places with gorgeous mountain vistas. Iceland, New Zealand, Banff, Alaska...You can't go wrong with any of those.

Europe is always cool. Amsterdam, Tromso, Stockholm, Istanbul are on my list.

So, is Japan and Peru.

In fact, if you go to IcelandAir's website. You can do Europe and get a free stopover in Iceland. :)

Have you seen the Canyon-lands of Utah? Zion, Brice, North rim of the Grand Canyon and a ton of other great places to see. Ton's of wonderful places to see in the USA.

How about the fall colors in the NE.

This. Iceland itself is pretty cool, too.

Detroit.

yetibone 10-02-2015 08:49 AM

Utah.

Maybe Rome, Italy.

Topeka, KS...

What you NEED to do is to see the WIDE open spaces. Fly into Topeka Kansas and rent a car and check out I-70 and drive to Denver. That will make you really appreciate the Rocky mountains if you drive on up to the Rocky Mountains national park. You need to do that in mid summer however.

So, let' see who responded: FL, AZ, CA, NC?

I guess I can respond then too. I don't travel far. I spend a lot of time in local camp grounds, at the local ocean and in the local mountains. I have not gone on an airplane ride with the family for vacationing for about 10 years, IIRC. It is all road trips. I love it.

Princess cruise to Alaska.

Tervuren 10-02-2015 09:28 AM

I'd go somewhere where you could see the fall colors come out in full storm.

Needles, CA is the real secret garden spot.

Seriously, check out Sequoia, Yosemite, Eastern Sierra, Yellowstone, Glacier or any of our beautiful National Parks. So many people are quick to jet off to some exotic destination when some of the most realaxing and beautiful places are right in our backyard.

I was gona say Chicago on the lake in December or January....

BTW when I lived in S CA I did vacation in Detroit. Kind of an urban tactical exercise thing of seeing if you can get out alive. Actually i had relatives who had a place on the lake up in Port Sanilac. Instead of a visit to Disney world went out to a bar in Decker..Now that was a journey up the river into the American heart of darkness.

Why not just say San Bernardino...down by the Rail Road tracks...

For some reason every time I was in San Berdo I started thinking I was in Detroit...

I would suggest Newfoundland. Also there is the rally Targa Newfoundland. Lots of lobster and the Can. $ is cheap. Not that I have ever been there! Great for hiking and cycling.
