FYI you P's, it's called PBR.

I knew some crazy bastad's who would cook any mushrooms along with sloe vodka. Notice I said 'knew'. Not a chance would I touch anything they made. Not quite sure but they must have some nuclear stomach acids.

For such a diverse country, really weird though how picky American recipes to this day seem conservative. Many country's utilize far more plants or animal parts for human consumption. Yet, I've found a grocer selling cattle eye's and tongue. The pickled pigs feet is acceptable.

PBR has been a staple in the local redneck crowd forever. Lots of livers and livelihoods hang above the Pabst fireplace.

I don't know anything about the mushrooms except amanita is the classic one that causes liver failure and death in a few days. Oh, and they're white on the bottom. I think in general it is better to buy them at whole foods or whatever.

The main issue is that it is not open and you cannot see the underside. That is important to have for ID. Even the online tool posted checks the underside as one of the first identifiers.

I would never pick mushrooms away from home - home meaning where my forefathers picked them and handed the knowledge down the family. Often the issue starts when people are moving to another country and think they recognize an edible mushroom from their homeland. But it isn't ...

Serious mushroom poisoning is brutal, as usually, by the time you find out, there is nothing that can be done to save you. Your organs are mush.

Most victims of life-threatening mushroom poisoning in North America are people from Southeast Asia—Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Viet Nam. They apparently mistake Death Caps for edible "Paddy-Straw" (Volvariella volvacea) mushrooms. The two are similar in several ways—cap color, size, and the white "cup" around the base of the stalk—but different in others (for example, the Paddy-Straw has a pink spore print, the Death Cap a white spore print; and the Death Cap has a partial veil). The Paddy Straw mushroom occurs in tropical and temperate areas worldwide, and is especially common in Southeast Asia; the Death Cap, alas, does not occur in Southeast Asia, so folks from that part of the world are unaware of the lethal "look-alike."

In North America, Death Cap poisonings have been reported from California, Oregon, and New York. In New York, the only known victims to date were natives of Laos. In California and in Oregon, most reported Death Cap poisonings have also involved Southeast Asian immigrants.

The poisoning cases typically involve several victims—often including children—who "enjoyed" the mushrooms as a group. One or two deaths per case are common. The treatment of choice is often liver transplantation. Especially with early diagnosis, other effective treatments include massive doses of penicillin, which stimulates the liver's defenses.

Oh man...my 7 year old Airedale had the same symptoms along with drinking a lot of water. We took him to the vet thinking he ate a mushroom or deer crap in he woods. Wrong. He has lymphoma. Have your vet check your dogs calcium levels and over enzymes..I hope you do better than Jack did....

When I used to hunt wild mushrooms with my FIL he taught me a simple rule. If you don't know what it is, it could kill you.
