Next, what is this. Mushroom ID.

These have been appearing. I have tow small dogs and they like to chew. I pull them as soon as I see them.

Anyone an expert?

Curious as to how toxic they are to the mutts?

What's it taste like?

I don't know one mushroom from another but I think my mini labradoodle is addicted to them. I have to watch him close. It's a big nuisance.--Dave

Not magic.

Try a nibble... give it a hour or two... if you find yourself conversing with your ancestors toss it out.

Funny but my mom, who's an avid mushroom hunter, used to do just that back when we were kids. If she couldn't identify it, she would cut off a piece and nibble on it and, yes, wait two hours...if all was well, we would have mushroom X soup that night! BTW, she is very much alive and well to this day at 83 as are all of my siblings!!

Her general rule of thumb is that if the underside is a light colour...off white, light brown...they're probably safe. If they're reddish, orange, yellow = avoid.

I get those types in my yard all the time Patz and they're pretty tasty when grilled with butter (what isn't?) BUT I've heard dogs shouldn't eat mushrooms of any type fwiw!

"Why did you shoot her?"

"She wouldn't eat the mushrooms!"

Well one has a nasty case of the squirts and no appetite.

damn, if a Porsche forum can't make a consensus on mushrooms,
how can I possibly ask about cognac???

Hugh R 10-08-2015 06:56 PM

A generic cognac probably won't shut down your liver (in moderation).

Esel Mann 10-08-2015 07:03 PM

I know of generic beer

I once bought a 12 pack of Pabst, its the only beer that I poured 11-3/4 beers down the drain.

MycoKeys online Morphing Mushroom Identifier (MMI) quickstart

My friend is a park ranger. He told me a Vietnamese family collected some shrooms from the park and ate them. Kidney failure for everyone.

I don't mess with wild fungus. Not yet. But I do want to take a foraging course.
