What up with Porsche Prices?
Wife and I have been thinking about getting a date car. I've always been partial to Porsche but the pricing is outrageous. I can buy a Ferrari or even a Lamborghini Gallardo for the price of a used 911 turbo. Why is a five year old 911 as expensive or sometimes more expensive than a used supercar?

I'll sell you my 32,000 mile 2008 Porsche 997 Turbo cabriolet for MUCH less than a Gallardo or even a 2001 360 Ferrari. Its a perfect date car. PM me if you're really looking.

Huh? A 2010 997TT is dramatically cheaper than a comparable Ferrari or Lamborghini.

A date car would be more like a 1975 Custom Van.

A super car is not a date car. There are lots of fun cars out there that are fun to drive and fun to own and won't cripple your budget with maintenance and upkeep.
BTW, crippling maintenance and upkeep costs are why some exotic used cars are such a great deal. Don't ask me how I would know that. |

Here’s a 1997 Ferrari 360 listed at $62,000 - Here’s a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo listed at $72,500. Here’s a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo listed at $75,800 There are many examples of this on E-bay. Last edited by 930addict; 10-12-2015 at 06:52 PM.. Reason: correction |

Doesn't seem fair to compare a 2010 with a 1997 or a 2004, but that's just me.
The answer to your question is called supply and demand, as well as market dynamics. |

![]() ![]() 2010 Gallardo $149,800 So it's been a while since I looked at cars and it is evident that I'm definitely out of touch. The air-cooled cars have gotten freaking crazy expensive. I guess my thing is that if I'm going to shell out that kind of money, I'll take a Ferrari or Lambo over a Porsche. Last edited by 930addict; 10-12-2015 at 07:22 PM.. |

Not sure the OP has a fair "complaint" if he's just looking for a fun "date car" in a 911. Have you seen the affordable 996 thread? Heck, even 997s can be purchased by mere mortals these days. Have you seen how much 996 turbo you can buy for about $40k these days? Yeah, 930s, 965s, and 993tts are pricey; but that's like complaining about how impossible it is to buy a beachfront house in Malibu or Nantuckett. I may have missed the boat on that GT3 I always wanted, but that doesn't mean there aren't fun Porsches to be had for a lower budget.

I don't care for the style of the 996. I could get into a 997 but, as I showed in a post above, for similar money you can get a Ferrari and even a Lamborghini. The last two are a completely different level of sports car ownership and I think it would be a fun novelty to play with for a few years. My point is that for the same money you can get much more car. The asking price of the older Porsche's aren't worth it for me. Anyhow, I've got time to think about it as I'm still finalizing plans for my garage addition. Wife and I finally agreed on a design. LOL |

That car looks gayer than Liberace to me. ^^^
Cabriolet, gay colors, ugly wheels that are way too small in rear, dated styling, etc... If it's an automatic, it's gayer than a Miata. JMHO, of course. ![]()
