The Crowler - a growler can. You fill the can from a tap like a growler, then seal it up. TABC declared them illegal.
We have lots of local craft beer in cans. Karbach has always been cans. |
Canned is better in nearly every way. No light penetration - readily recyclable - far lighter to ship - easier to cram in your backpack and your golf bag - legal at the pool - kinda looks like a soda in the can kozie when at a parade.
Look at the range of CO beers now shipping in cans. New Belgium, Oskar Blues, Ska, Upslope and how many dozen more? Heck, I see OB now in London - quite a leap for a little brewery in Lyons CO. I even recall that some genius out there came up with the idea of a portable can line, based in a truck, that could come _TO_ the little brewery to can a batch. What an idea! You get to can your beer without the capitol investment of a canning line... |
My garage refrigerator is stacked with Sierra Nevada bottles for evening beer and Modelo cans for hot days working the yard. Temp is set to just above frozen. Wonderful.
|
I'm a big can fan too. Bitburger or Radeberger - 0.5l. I think it is closer to kegged beer for some reason. You can pour into a glass or drink straight from the can ...
And as mentioned, it is much better to recycle and get a few bucks back. My kids take out the trash, crush and bag and they get to keep the proceeds. I always encourage people at my house to drink my canned beer! "Think of the children!"". G |

For a long time, cities were dry, but the county was wet. Some entire counties were dry. I would guess that the city with the big ass university was Lubbock or Denton. 10-15 years ago we loosened the signature requirement for local option elections to get the sale of alcohol on ballots. Many cities that were once dry are now wet, however, many of those cities did not include the sale of spirits (liquor stores) on the ballot, thus they are still prohibited. I drink ****ty canned beer, she drinks high dollar ****ty bottled beer. |

Yeah, Lubbock was the place. Go 1/2 mile over a bridge and all the beer stores you could imagine. Don't remember if they sold the hard stuff however.
|
I have been drinking a bit of this lately.

here's my take, I too like canned beer. I buy the 16oz Coors Banquet Talls from my local liquor store. If my wife brings home a 12 pak from the grocery store, I can tell, they're not as fresh / good. I think the grocery store stock is older & has not been kept cold.

Yep, the minute particles of aluminum give a nice flavor to the beer ;) And I don't believe all that shirt about aluminum Alzheimer's link either.
Probably my favorite beer in a can is our Tui East India Pale Ale. Mind you, those clever Germans must have been copying our beers as some of theirs are good too. |
Canned beer is definitely making a comeback....so is screw cap wine. Ahhhh, brings me back to high school. PBR pounders and Boone's farm wine.
|
Somehow, I picture Homer Simpson crushing a "Duffs" beer can against his forehead, and belching loudly with little bubbles coming out.
But hey, I just downed a Bud light with dinner......still good out of the can. |
Not banned, just cheaper the other way, and less chance of it becoming oxidized. At first I was horrified  it just didn't seem right. Now I think it's great.
