I Like Canned Beer...
So on the heels of the, "has beer become too hoppy" thread (do think beer has gotten too hoppy?), If I can't have beer from a tap, I prefer it in cans! Such that even if my favorite beer is available in bottle (maybe sold-out of cans), I will work down my beer list until I find one in cans. I'm not saying canned beer tastes better than bottles. Maybe it is a weird nostalgia thing? Maybe I like the convenience; cans are easy to keep cool, easy to pack in a cooler, more widely accepted on beaches and pool-side, etc.
I've also noticed that many beers that were once only available in bottle are now available in cans: Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Stella Artois, Corona, blah, blah, yada, yada. So that's it! A dark confession? What say you?

Maybe I'm a drunk klutz and cans are more shatter proof?

![]() Though I've literally had thousands in a can for the reasons mentioned, they suck! I avoid cans and will go to a 2nd/3rd choice in a bottle instead. I don't drink that much beer anymore....last can was probably at the Cat's Cradle a few years back ![]() |

I like canned beer too. The cans don't break when I pack it out in the wilds hunting and fishing and ATV'ing.
I like fancy beers, not to many hopps ! I'm having a Sam Adams Oktoberfest right now. But give me a Coors Light in a can that's all I need. Modelo in a can also fine. ![]() Glad to get that off my chest!

Cheaper to can if you do a lot and keeps better, we sell to Founders here in Grand Rapids and they are really gearing up for canning now!

I bought cans because glass was prohibited at the beach. Ten years-ish ago they banned all alcohol from the the beach so I don't buy cans anymore.

I recycle, so cans are better to crush. Ever try crushing a glass bottle?

There are some awesome beers in cans. My favorite dark beer, Cavatica Stout from Fort George Brewing (OR) is can only.

I'm confused, canned beer is illegal in TX? I was in some TX city years ago, and they didn't sell beer but there was a lot of traffic going across the bridge 1/2 mile to another county with dozens of liquor stores. It was some city with a big ass university.

The Crowler - a growler can. You fill the can from a tap like a growler, then seal it up. TABC declared them illegal.
We have lots of local craft beer in cans. Karbach has always been cans.

Canned is better in nearly every way. No light penetration - readily recyclable - far lighter to ship - easier to cram in your backpack and your golf bag - legal at the pool - kinda looks like a soda in the can kozie when at a parade.
Look at the range of CO beers now shipping in cans. New Belgium, Oskar Blues, Ska, Upslope and how many dozen more? Heck, I see OB now in London - quite a leap for a little brewery in Lyons CO. I even recall that some genius out there came up with the idea of a portable can line, based in a truck, that could come _TO_ the little brewery to can a batch. What an idea! You get to can your beer without the capitol investment of a canning line...

My garage refrigerator is stacked with Sierra Nevada bottles for evening beer and Modelo cans for hot days working the yard. Temp is set to just above frozen. Wonderful.
