Glorious interstates/ roads
As a flip side to the Dangerous interstate thread, I was thinking about glorious stretches of road.
For me (once getting off 81-a "dangerous road") , a glorious stretch of road is I-26 between Tennessee and Asheville North Carolina. Light traffic. Few Cops. Beautiful: ![]() ![]() ![]() Happy with the gauges!

I68 through Maryland's mountains. Sideling Hill is especially cool. Supposedly the least used interstate.

Washington State Highway 410 over Chinook Pass. Fun twisties climbing up the West side, long straights and fast sweepers on the East. Minimal traffic on weekdays, stuck behind campers on weekends. |

State highway 14 along the Columbia River and through the gorge is also among the best.

I just drove I-26 last weekend. Rain was coming down in sheets. Couldn't see anything. Car hydroplaning at anything over 45 mph. The trip back was beautiful.

![]() This is near McConnico, AZ I kept looking for Sally Carrera or Tow-Mater. The scenery is nice. Not much traffic.

The video doesn't capture the true majesty of this road when you are headed east bound and the sun is setting behind you. The colors are simply boggling.

The different parts of the country have different versions of "pretty" scenery.
![]() This is near nothing really but my iPhone says it is close to San Jon, NM almost into the Texas panhandle. This is what wide open spaces looks like from the driver's seat.

I got a lot of them. I have driven it to California three times, Michigan, and Savannah and last year French Lick.

![]() Next year the plan it to knock off all the northeast states and Canada. Driving across RI is a lot easier than getting across Montana. ![]() I need to figure out a route to hit all those states, and see the sights at a few interesting places in each state. I hear there is some interesting historical sights in that part of the country.

Peak to Peak
I was in Denver this weekend visiting friends and yesterday afternoon my friend and I went for a drive in the mountains in his Miata (a '99 with sport package that he bought new) before going to DIA. My favorite part is the Peak To Peak, which we drove only between Black Hawk and Ned.

Rt. 12 west over Lolo pass from Missoula, MT.
Rt. 20 west from Bend, Or. Rt. 16 between Worland and Buffalo, Wy. Did all of these with a tractor trailer......NOT the recommended mode of transportation. Would love to do them with the 911.
