PLEASE HELP ME - Inlaws here for 2 WEEKS

The subject says it all. The inlaws have arrived for 2 weeks and I am only 4 days into it. They even brought along the 5 year old grandson. I defy you to produce a child more spoiled or foul tempered. Driving back from San Diego yesterday the concrete bridge abutments started to look very inviting... Please help!

To keep this on topic let me say that the 911 is running wonderful, the top is now replaced and I have been maintaining what small bits of sanity I still possess by putting together a Pelican Christmas List.
Thank you for listening....

Thomas, your 911 is broken. You must spend countless hours working in the garage to fix it. You must take it on long test drives to verify your repairs. You will have to repeat this process a couple of times until you get it right. That should take about 2 weeks.

With the car problems you're having you would also need to spend long hours consulting this forum on your computer.

Isn't there someone in the Tucson area that needs to drop their engine/trans and rebuild both over the next two weeks - with Thomas' help?

I wouldn't be surprised if your boss had to send you out of state to a very important industry conference.

well ..............you ARE in the desert, buzzards can do wonderfull things.................................
i think the idea of "planting" and oil slick under the rear of your 911 is your best bet, translates to laying underneath out of sight AND computer time for tech assistance

Let's see, when I went to U of A we would head south. It's 45 min to the border. Park the ride on the US side and then walk to Nogales. Man border towns are aweful. But at least you could sit and sip some nice tequelia and know there is no way they are bringing that brat there. Then on the way back you could stop by the old missions and get some nice sunset pictures of your car with a great back drop.
OR take the kid out to Mt Lemon and drop him off a cliff. (almost did this to myself freshmen year on a drunken night hike, very scary with impared balance). Saguaro national forest has some great remote places to tie the kid to a catus and use bell's suggestion. But very dusty road, so use wife or inlaw's car.
Serenity now brother, my ordeal starts tomorrow. SERENITY NOW!

Mr. Owen, my name Speacial Investigator Jones and I have a subpoena naming you as a material witness in a Government investigation involving National Security. I must request that you (and your car) report straight away to regional headquarters in an undisclosed location.. Please pack 2 weeks worth of personal effects as this investigation may depose you for said time. This information is not to be disclosed to family, friends by sealed order of high command.

Back to San Diego- NOW!

Then a little side trip up to Mt. Polomar. At redline. Guarenteed to return sanity, along with a stupid grin, for quite a while.
Repeat as neccessary.

Alcohol, and lots of it. Then expose yourself to your mother in law. That should guarantee a rapid departure of the in laws.

Even more if they're alive, so be sure to poke lots of holes in the shipping box.

Sure fire solution

Why don't a couple of us Pelicanheadss who are not known to your family come down and "kidnap" you. We can hold you "captive" in the location of your choice and demand an impossible to raise ransom. Once the inlaws are gone you can make your "escape" !

2 weeks? That's nothin! I had my mother-in-law and her two sons live with me for over a year! It was my (bad) decision, but we had no choice in the matter: she was getting divorced, and had no income.

Here's how bad it got: On my salary ALONE, I was supporting my wife (she was finishing up school), my mom-in-law, and her two teenage sons. I was scraping bottom towards the end of the time, and mom just got something like $5000.00 from the sale of her house. I wasn't sure I could make the house payments. I asked her if I could borrow $1000.00, that I would pay back within a month, when I would be receiving my bonus. Her recommendation to me was that I needed to manage my finances better, and that maybe I should take some financial management classes! She demanded that I show her where all my money went. After that, she be-grudingly said she'll give me the $$, but never did.

Oh, somehow I managed to make all my payments. And though sometimes they drove me crazy, Jeff & Jon, my bro-in-laws are two of my closest friends now. Hopefully, I was able to help them during their 'impressionable' years.

And the BIG moral of the story: the reason my wife agreed so quickly to my Porsche investment (1/2 year after they left), was because of all the pain and suffering I went through!

So, two weeks: that's a piece of cake!

But my advice to you is this:
1. Make sure the inlaws know the 'house rules.' Make sure they know that you and your wife are the absolute authority when it comes to the house rules. (stuff like: wearing shoes in the house, playing music, TV volume, who cleans up the dishes, bathroom usage..etc.)
2. Make sure that your wife and you are united, if there is a spat amongst the family. Lean on each other if things get hairy.
3. Be easy going and flexible. Sure, you can lay down the rules, but be reasonable.
4. Don't loose your cool: it's not worth it. If you make this an enjoyable experience, it will be better for everyone.
5. IF you do loose your cool: get out of the house: but if you're like me, don't DRIVE. (Anger + driving is a bad combination for me)
6. Remember: they will give you something of an inheritence (hopefully!)
7. Take this opportunity to bond with your father in law. Hopefully he undertands your wife, and can give you some good advice from a male's point of view in dealing with her.

Sorry for the long post!
-Zoltan.

PS: Now, I do get along with my mom-in-law, for the most part...

Z-man; That's some great perspective.
So to sum up what you're saying "treat the inlaws like children" . .. .well, right up to #6.

"absolute authority " that's great. . .did you have them refer to you as "Z-King"?
